Go to CruiseCritic.com, click on "Boards" at the top of the page, then browse the various boards there. You might particularly be interested in "First Time Cruisers" and the various cruise line boards [Royal Caribbean, Carnival, and maybe Princess are good for first-timers].

Go to your library and check out some books about cruising. There's a lot to know before you can choose the cruise that is right for you. A travel agent can help, especially if you're a first-timer, but he/she would still have lots of questions for you in order to narrow things down. That's why you need to do some research first.

We prefer Carnival. The cruise line is economical and the atmosphere is fun for families and accomodating to kids.

My teens love the 24x7 pizzia and ice cream around every corner.

We have also taken Royal Carribean and Disney. RC was more stuffy than Carnival and I did not find it to be worth the extra money. The ship had constant plumbing problems, the bar staff would only serve the guest with sodas cards AFTER all of the bar drink guests were served even if you were in line first and one of the cabin steward's was so awful that we had to call for service (beds, ice, towels) 5 of the 7 days.

Disney is good to introduce very little ones to cruising (5-7) but it is expensive and Mickey Mouse overload.

Keep in mind for cruising in 2008, all members of your party will need a passport. Apply for them early!

You can use www.vacationstogo.com to compare prices and even use a specific departure port. Keep in mind...the prices you see on the web usually do not include port fees and taxes which can run $75-100 per guest.

For a family cruise that is reasonably priced, I suggest Royal Caribbean, especially their newer ships.

There are activities for all ages, from Kid's Clubs to wine tastings, to rock climbing walls and movies and ice skating rinks.

The food is decent, and the ships stop at a good selection of ports, depending on the itinerary you've chosen.

The newer ships from Norwegian Cruise Lines (NCL) (not the ships cruising in Hawaii!!) would also be a good choice. NCL tries to be very family-friendly and they feature "free-style dining" so you'll have a choice of restaurants and can eat wherever and whenever you want.

Disney cruises are excellent, but they are much more expensive.

Enjoy!

The best family cruises are Carnival and Disney without a doubt, if the children are under 17otherwise, Royal caribbean is very good especially if it's your first time , just book ahead and save the money, never pay brochure price look on the internet for the best prices , or contact a travel agent they'll find the best price for you and may even send you a gift basket or something in your room as a thankyou for going through them , a 3-4 day if good for your 1st one and if you have kids save money by getting a sodacard it is usually 20.0 dollars and buys them all the soda for the whole cruise, no it' not included. it's extra only juice and milk are included. and for adults the alcohol will rack you watch the drinks, you'll see. take care
