Cruising is a great way to vacation. You get to visit a few places and unpack once, and if you like it, you're hooked for life. I have been on 10 cruises and really haven't had any bad experiences that came from the boat or cruise line itself. the other passengers are a different story but like everything else your vacation is what you make it. i have been on both Carnival (which I prefer) and Royal caribbean. I have done western and easter caribbean (east is better) and the Mexican Riviera (loved it so much going back again this February). Research your trip before hand (cruisecritic.com is a good place) but don't over research and take away all the first time wonder of it (you won't believe how big the ship really is until you're next to it) have a fantastic time and may we cross one day on the seas

Cruising is the way to go if you want a hassle free vacation. Do not under any circumstances go with a guaranteed cabin. I've done this twice and regretted it both times. We got stuck in a crummy area right above the kitchen and was awake at 3 am listening to the bakers on the ship. Choose your cabin and pay the extra money(not much). Go mid ship with only cabins above and below you, you'll be glad you did.By the way, I've been on 13 cruises.

Good: Meeting new people, sometimes from your own home town completely by accident, and hanging out with them. Too much of everything; food, drinks, atmosphere, etc.

Bad: getting your bill for on-ship purchases at the end. Dang, those drinks add up ; )

Worst: Ship was back in port, everyone waiting to disembark. A couple got in a fight the night before and the wife was hiding somewhere on the ship. No one could find her. The staff were going crazy trying to find her. The whole ship was held up over an hour by customs until she was found. No telling how many people lost their connecting flights home.

Overall, cruising is great. Whatever the cruise costs, double it for other expenses if you really want to go all out.

UK reply.

Overall no real problems had a great time on most of them. Sometimes little things go wrong but usually they are sorted quickly/ok.

We are tending to go for more "adventure" or "expedition" cruises nowadays in much smaller ships, down to 12 persons! They are more expensive but give you unique memories!

Once you have been to Antarctica, Galapagos Islands, Arctic etc. a normal cruise ship tends to be a bit shallow! However we are going on an NCL ship (2000+ people) in the Med. in 3 weeks time!
Then on a 100 person sailing boat "cruise ship" in West Indies early next year but the highlight is Nov. next year for 3rd trip to Antarctica (this time on Russian icebreaker) to see the Emporer penguins and on to S. Georgia for the King penguins!

Cruises are the greatest way to vacation. I have been on six cruises from Miami and Galveston and they were all excellent. Everything is convenient and the food is outstanding. If you have kids they are even better. You don't have to pile in a rental car, or take a cab to go eat and there are a lot of activities for them to do.

For those of us that carry a blackberry, cruises are fantastic, because there is no service on the open sea, so I am truly away from work.

I am fond of either Royal Caribbean, or Princess Cruise. Tried Carnival once, but not as staisfied.

Nearly all my experiences are good or in many instances great! Love the food. Love the 24 hour room service. Love that there is something to do around every corner.

The only really bad experience I've had was once when we went around a storm. The water was a little rocky. Most of the people were not feeling well and they were handing out saltines all over the ship. But 12 hours later - all was good.

The food is amazing. The shows were great! The service was outstanding. One suggestion I can give you is that you determine how good the trip is. Get out there, plan events, see shows. dont stay in your room cuz there's so much to do you might not even know about! anyways it was a great time!

by the way i went on the royal carribean cruise line

there were no bad experences on that trip at all!
