What did you wish you had taken on your cruise?

I've never been on a cruise before and while they will have shops to help me out if I've forgotten something...I really don't want to pay three times what the item is actually worth. So, for all of you who have been on a cruise, what did you forget that you really needed? What did you wish you had packed?

A bag {something light/small} that I could carry my camera, water bottle, and souvenirs in while walking around in port.

I personally didn't need this, but if you are a person that has every electronic...cell phone, laptop, Ipod, camera, etc. then you will need a powerstrip {I think there are only one or two outlets period}.

We are coke drinkers and didn't want to buy a soda card or pay $4.00 for a small glass...so I wish I would have brought our own cokes/waters.

Cash, definitely! You need it for tips, souvenirs, etc.

The shops on the liners are waaaay expensive!

Take the necessities, and get what you need on shore.

We over packed clothing-wise.

Bring an extra bag to bring home your goodies that you purchase. Bring extra batteries. Bring Woolite to wash your clothes in the sink. Don't forget your travel documents.

As for packing clothes, this might help you:

DONT OVER PACK, I WISH I HAD TAKEN MORE CASH, ATM FEES ARE AROUND 5.75 PER WITHDRAWL. PS IF YOU USE A DEBIT CARD FOR YOUR ONBOARD ACCOUNT MAKE SURE YOUR DAILY LIMIT IS ENOUGH.

Definately bring more money than you think you will need. You're on vacation and the money seems to go more quickly then you think lol. I brought a travel alarm clock which came in handy big time. I got it for like $2 but it sure came in handy. I also brought my camera charger. Bring a nightlight if you have an inside cabin cause I heard they are pitch black. If you are female, bring more clothes than you think you need. Better to have it and not need it then to need it and not have it! Bring lots of flip flops and at least 3 swimsuits!!

I wished I had brought flatter shoes for formal nights - we had a couple of periods of rough weather! I was walking like Popeye! The cruise we went on had surprisingly fair prices in the shops - similar to at home prices - different cruise lines might vary. Tote bag for 'at sea' days, cash for tipping at end if not included on your onboard account and a warm jacket for nights at sea if you want to go on deck are all necessities. Have a good time.

I've been on 32 cruises. I've pretty much got it down.

Lay out all the clothes you think you will need for the week, and then put half of them back in the closet. A lot of times products are cheaper down there, then you could get them at home.

A good rule is bring half the clothes, and twice the money.

The one thing I did forget last time, was a lower SPF sunscreen. I had an SPF 50 with me. And usually I bring like an SPF 15 or something, so I can get a little color. I might use the 15 for a few hours one day, so I can get a little color, and then use the 50 the rest of the time so I can keep from burning. But, last time I forgot the 15.

Most cruises are very casual, however, the dining rooms may enforce a dress code and many cruise lines feature a 'formal night' where guests are required to step up their attire in dresses or gowns and suits or tuxedos. For small forgotten toiletries, most ships have complimentary packages, and the shops on board are usually well stocked with those little things that get left behind, and are generally not expensive. If you are a smoker, bring enough of your own brand just in case it is not available on board or in port, and if you are cruising in the sun belt don't forget the SPF and the after-sun lotion. Earplugs may also come in handy to offset the noise of engines or neighbours. If you have space in your luggage, and depending on where you will be stopping, a mask/snorkel/fins set can be handy, it will save rental costs. Don't forget lots of film - if you are digital, make sure your memory card will accomodate lots of pictures! I also found that a small ziploc bag with some powdered laundry detergent came in very handy for rinsing small items in the sink.
Have a great trip!
