Essentially they are the same unless the exterior room has a balcony. If the room has a window it feels bigger. If the room has a balcony it feels a lot bigger - even though they are the same size (actually, exterior rooms are usually a little bigger, but by any standard, cabins are quite small). All exterior rooms have at least a window. Lower decks have smaller windows.
If you are trying to decide between an interior room and an exterior I'd go with the interior for the cost savings. The reason being is that if you go for the exterior and next time you can only afford an interior, you are going to hate it. Right now, you don't know the difference and if you prepare yourself for the most cramped living quarters possible (1 step up from a jail cell) you won't be disappointed.
One exception being some of the RC ships that have interior rooms with balconies that overlook a shopping lobby below.

Inside: No window but usually a big mirror were the window should be
Exterior/seaside/outside: A window from were you can look at the sea. Come in three categories:
Porthole: Small round window
Restricted view: The view of the sea is blocked by an lifeboat or a stair for example.
Unrestricted (normal) view: A big window from where you can see the sea.
Balcony/veranda: An exterior with youre private balcony/veranda. Many modern cruise ships have loads of theese and theyre not that more expencive than simalar cabins on older cruise ships.
Suits is essensially a larger than normal cabin and will mostly come with a balcony/veranda. Could be very expencive.
Note: Most cabins on modern ships are off the same sice regardless of deck and if theyre interior/exterior.
All cruise lines have pictures of theyres cabins of different sizes. You should start there to find out what cabins look like.

The interior and oceanview staterooms are the same size. Maybe 1 to 2 sq.ft. difference, but that is it. The rooms are the same and the only difference between the two is the oceanview cabin will have a porthole (5A) category or a 6A picture window

They are all pretty much the same size unless you move up to a suite.
i get a inside stateroom everytime i cruise (9 times so far) it doesnt bother me at all and i love natural light. basically all i do in my room is sleep and unwind. barely ever in the room. so it doesnt really matter to me. you wont use your room as much as you think you will.
also its alot cheaper..lol

Usually the inside and outside cabins that are located at the same deck are similar. Major difference is the window they do not have.
Barkley Hound
The lower price rooms are pretty small. The inside and outside rooms are about the same size. With a triple one person will be on an upper bunk that folds down from the wall at night.

If your booking class is 6 then you have a window.
If you have 8 and above you probably have a balcony.
you might want to visit carnival.com for a better look at the cabins.

The inside and outside rooms are pretty similar but for the information you want you must check the cruise lines for window or balcony arrangements. It depends on the deck you sign up for and that depends on the price you want to pay.
