What is a good cruise line company that isn't too expensive, but doesn't compromise quality either?

Essentially the question says it all, but more specifically, my girlfriend and I are looking to take a nice little cruise. We're both college students, so huge budgets aren't exactly in our options, but I want the cruise to have a nice environment that can be conducive to good fun. Does anyone have experience with choosing a modestly priced cruise, that offers the maximum atmosphere and experience?

Any fingers in the right direction would even be miles ahead of where I am now!

Thanks!

My husband and I just went on a cruise in January and we got a GREAT deal from carnival! We sailed from Port Canaveral (Orlando) which was bit of a drive for us (11 hours) but we went on a 5 day 4 night for $635.00 and that was for both of us! That was also a room with ocean view and we were on the highest level of rooms before you got to the suites. We had a great time and we thought it was a great deal! Much cheaper than going to the beach for a few days! Also, it is great because the food was included. We are not much on drinking soft drinks so that helped on cost. There are plenty of other things to drink on the ship. Make sure to budget if you guys plan on drinking! I heard that the drink prices were going to be outrageous but they actually were just like going out to the bar! Also, they have the "drink of the day" which are always a good deal and they come with a "free" souvenir cup! We bought a few of the on board pictures which were kinda expensive but well worth it!

SO! Carnival is a great option! Also, the rates are cheaper during the "off" months which is from like January- march! Something like that! I know you can get great rates for January and February. Have a great time!!! Again our cruise was only $635 for two people and that is with tax and all other fees! (except for online expenses)

For college students, Carnival is definitely your best option. There is always something fun going on and they treat you like royalty and their costs are normally lower than other lines. You will not be disappointed

I would go with Norwegian or Princess. Both easy on the budget yet offer everything you want & more. Once you decide where you want to go go to their sites & sign up for free emails on specials usually at the start or end of the season.
You both will have a BLAST.
Enjoy.

well just did a search for you norwegian was 100.00 more then carnival ,the prices for carnival were alot less and for your age group you will mostly have more fun on carnival also you mite want to think about airfare or if your in florida you could always drive to make sure that they have parking for you also your age is another thing, one of you must be over 21 , How old do you have to be to travel alone?

Guests are required to be 21 years old (on embarkation day) to travel. Guests under the age of 21 must be accompanied in the same stateroom by a parent or guardian 25 or older. The exceptions Carnival will make to this policy are:

Married minor couple - The booking must be documented that the couple is married. The couple must have proof of marriage at embarkation or they will be denied boarding without the benefit of a refund.

Domestic Partners/Same-Sex Union minor couple - The booking must be documented that the couple are legal Domestic Partners/Same-Sex Union. The couple must have legal proof of partnership/union at embarkation or they will be denied boarding without the benefit of a refund.

Guest ages will be verified at embarkation. Guests not conforming to this policy will be denied boarding and assessed a 100% cancellation penalty. NO exceptions will be made at embarkation.

The Group policy is slightly different because of stricter group terms and conditions including mandatory chaperones, damage deposits and other considerations
good luck hope you find a cruise ,my son chose this cruise line he will be 23yrs old and girlfriend is 20yrs but now there are a few more going so that will help try to get some friends to go also here a link to help on some of the question

this cruise line i think is only in europe, but they go to the coolest places. Its called AIDA, great service staff really nice food awesome, tours , and recreation on board and really cheap, also in caribbean i think

Not sure what you mean by "expensive", but the mass-market cruises usually run about $100/person/day, more or less. Also, the cruise lines have age restrictions, so you may be limited in your choices.

I wouldn't recommend Norwegian, based on what I've read - the quality just isn't there, and it's no cheaper than any of the others. Carnival is the "fun ship" line and is a good value for the money - food is usually decent, cabins are nice, service is pretty good. However, their ships are "Las Vegas glitz". Have never been on Royal Caribbean, but again, from what I've read, the quality is about the same [or a bit lower] than Carnival. Princess is supposedly a bit of a step above the other three, in terms of food and service and their activity level is still pretty high.

A really nice line, which does cost a little more, is Celebrity; also Holland America. These two lines have very good food, wonderful service - but the activity level is more subdued and the clientele tend to be more "traditional" [e.g. they'll dress up for dinner, almost always]. These lines don't sail in the Caribbean all year round, so that may be a factor.

You could go to CruiseCritic.com and click on "Reviews" [especially read "Member Reviews"] and/or "Boards". You'll find tons of info from experienced cruisers.

Good luck - I hope you find just the right cruise for you.

I would choose Princess cruise lines. They have a lot of class and don't compromise on anything. I have cruised with them 8 times so far and will cruise with them again at the end of this year. I have had great experiences with them from taking care of problems such as dinning seating to medical problems. On the medical problem, they took us to the pharmacy in port and waited for us to get the prescription and then took us back to the ship. Now that was service. For great prices, go to "vacations to go". They have lots of last minute(90 days) deals.

I would say norwegian cruise lines, because its affordable, fairly unknown, and goes to all sorts of great places. I would streer clear of any overly popular cruise lines, such as carnival, Royal Caribbean, and Disney.

Hope u and ur girlfriend have a good time!
