The Cruise Director is a member of the ship's staff, as opposed to the crew that keeps the ship clean and operational. The cruise director will be a man or woman who is responsible for greeting guests as they board the ship; planning and carrying out entertainment activities on the ship such as games and parties around the pool; arranging nighttime activities around the pool deck such as a Hawaiian barbecue night with dancing and special foods; planning entertainment in the clubs, lounges and/or disco; introducing performers each evening in the ship's show room; arranging talks and demonstrations on ship, like ice carving or wine tasting demonstrations; arranging special meeting for guests on ship in party rooms or other places; and in general making sure that the guest are well entertained on ship.
The first that most people see of the cruise director is at the "sail away" party when the ship leaves the departure port and there is music playing on the top decks and the cruise director will be there to get everyone into a festive mood, usually by getting everyone to dance either a line dance or a conga line. The cruise director will usually at that point introduce members of his/her staff.
If you are interested in this job go to Royal Caribbean's web site and click on the "JOBS" link on the bottom of the page and look for jobs in the entertainment field on ship.

This is someone who organizes activities for a cruise line.
Jeffsey
It's like the overly cheerful human resouces lady, but for the passengers.
You'll get to hear her on the PA atleast once a day advertising all the activities available. She organizes them and has to drink a lot of caffine to stay that cheerful all the time =D.
