It depends on which department you are applying for, I used to work for Carnival Corp in Casinos, if your American you will find it hard to work in most departments as I'm Australian and they don't hire us for most departments.
Most "westerners" work in departments like Casino, Gift Shop, Spa, Photo etc.
Now let me weigh it up for you, BAD: small cabins, long hours, following strict rules and guidelines, dealing with officers....... GOOD: Crew Parties, Discount Prices on and off the ship, Places you will dock, Social Life, Days off if you get one depending on the department, saving money if you earn enough.
So i hope i outlined it for you, if you need anymore help feel free to contact me.

Its very hard.
In my opinion is one of the hardest positions onboard.
Ive worked as a staff member for a long time, cabin stewards are not staff, they are crew, bad cabins, bad food, no deck priviledges at all...
some people dont tip
and on embarkation day you work like 24 hours carrying all the pax luggage.
So if you are doing say, 3, 4 day cruises, you are dead.
check other positions, preferably staff ones, like Shops, Photo, Spa, Casino...
those are better.
for the shops a good company is
www.hardingbros.co.uk
its a concession with shops on some 50 ships,
interviews are over the phone and salary is 160pounds a week + commission, and you usually dont work while the ship is on port, cause the shops are duty free and cant open.

I presume you are an American. You would have a hard time getting a job as cabin crew.

Most are Asian such as from the Philippines and some are Hispanic. The wages are very low, the hours exceedingly long, cramped conditions but these people are willing to do this hard labor to earn money for their families. Most are on 3 month contracts and then have about a month off. It is not glamorous at all.

you are working every day with long hours, you live in cramped cabins (at least 2 to a cabin) .
the upside is you get your room and food while you are there and can thus save your wages you make ( or most of it)

Cramped conditoins in sleeping areas.

Still in Stockbridge!
You work pretty much the whole time, maybe get 2 days off a month, but the good thing is you earn LOADS of money cos its all Tax free!
