What you heard is correct. However, if there is a particular cruise you want, you should book it as early as possible since there are significant price breaks for early booking. I always use a travel agent, and she consistently is able to get me a better price that the "early booking" price, plus get me the cabin of my choice. |

Yes, the closer it is to a cruise, the better the price will be. However, you will have less chances for a better room. Book the cruise directly through the cruise line. Although it may look like you may be able to get a better price through an agent or a site that books cruises, they tack on extra fees because they are doing the booking for you. Also, booking with the cruise line itself gives you the leverage to have the cruise line fix any problems you may have on your cruise directly through them. I have crused 9 times now (all with ncl. www.ncl.com) and even got married on one of their ships. Be advised that there are "port fees" attached to the cruise. So for example, you may book the cruise for $599 a person, but there will be a couple hundred dollars tacked on (per person) for port fees. The third and fourth person in the room are much cheaper than the first and second person as well. Make sure that you have a passport... you can not return to the US if you do not have one. Also, ALWAYS purchase the insurance. If for some reason someone becomes very ill, or breaks a leg or something of that nature the cruise line will offer you the chance to re-book your cruise (as long as it is prior to 30 days before sailing). This also gives you the ability to see the on ship doctor if someone gets sick. Please feel free to email me and pick my brains about any questions you may have about cruising. How soon you should book is based on where you want to go and how flexible you are about when you go. Good luck, I hope this has helped. |

There are last-minute deals to be made, if you know how to best take advantage of them. It doesn't necessarily matter who you book through. There are other ways to save big money on a cruise, and many of them are available here:
http://www.thecruisinginsider.com/cruiseguide
The e-book will cost you $9, but has tips that could save you hundreds or thousands, regardless of where you're going or who you book through. It is an instant download, so no waiting.
You have to remember that the last-minute cruise thing can be a gamble, because there's no guarantee that the price will drop, or that your ship will not fill up. It's not a bad thing to try if you can be flexible, but there are many other cost-saving tools you could take advantage of as well. Hope your trip goes well!

Here is a great site to try for your cruise. They have flights to get you there too. The link for Cruises is a little down on the left side. Bon voyage. |

Deadline for full refunds for pre-booked pax is about 70 days. Sometimes (not always) the price goes down after that.
You have to watch the web regularly, have flexibility at your job, know value when you see it, and be close enough to the port that you don't get screwed with last-minute air fare.
For last-minute bookings, I use the cruise line web sites or Cruise Value. Note that CV charges for cancellations and changes AND they pocket the difference if the cruise goes down further. |

For Disney Cruise it is the opposite. If you book farther out, you can take advantage of Early Booking Discounts. The good news - if a better discount comes along closer to your vacation dates (for example, FLA resident or military), you can always update your reservation to the better discount.
