What is the best month to go on a cruise to alaska?

They cruise May to Sept. due to weather & ice. If you are just doing a 7 day cruise & live in the Northeast the weather is very similar.
Sept. all stores have their 50% off sales great for souvenirs. If doing a cruise/tour then any month is good. While cooler while on the ship the farther you go inland the warmer it gets. To avoid the smaller children then May, first of June or Sept. Myself with over 20 cruise tours there I prefer May. You still see plenty of Wildlife from the ship, still snow on the mountains. No matter when you go the Glaciers are a wonderful sight.

I went in July, the weather was perfect. Obviously, winter in alaska is very cold, to cold for the ships to get in.

Go during the middle of summer, so you don't freeze your butt off. And, they only have cruises to Alaska from May to September, because it would be too cold and the weather too bad to take a cruise there. When the storms kick up in winter in Alaska, you could get 25 foot seas, sub-zero temperatures, gale force winds, whiteout blizzards, and this lovely thing they call freezing spray, where the wind picks water up from the ocean and whatever the spray of water hits gets coated in ice.

May or June is good. The earlier you go the "fresher" the crew is usually from re-positioning from another route. The crew is excited not to be doing the same-ole same-old thing and the residents at the ports are excited to see the tourists. At the end of the season, the residents tend to get a bit snarky because they are tired of all the activity and just want the people to go home.

Cruises to Alaska ONLY go from middle May to early September. The best time is whatever time you can go. But June is very nice without as many kids as July. In July you can see the bears, but the mosquitoes are huge and plentiful. My first Alaskan Cruise/tour was in early June. This year, I'm going in August. For the warmest weather, that would be July and August. Princess has some wonderful cruises to Alaska and great cruise/tours too(these are combined land tours with cruises).

Spring or Summer. Its really pretty in Alaska then. And its not that terribly cold. 40s-60s.
