anywhere the sip goes is fine by me, I love the different port,
however I live in Florida and a cruise is less per day than any other vacation for us

however I do not recommend Nassau it is OK but they are pushy and the city is dirty

Cozumel is nice, great place to shop, and has a lot to do

Grand Cayman is pretty and there is sting ray city that is popular, it also feature the town of (i kid you not) Hell.

for the most part any port has something to so, just look in advance on-line and plan a little to your tastes

It is really up to the individual and what you want out of the trip. I agree there are ships out there that are just a glorified "butlins" or similar - but hey that suits some people. I have cruised many times and because I wanted winter sun - opted for the Caribbean every time and was not disappointed - this was because I chose a good ship (like the Princess cruise line (which is actually P&O) - this caters for the US market primarily and therefore the service level I feel is high. Also the Royal Caribbean is a good line, from experience. There are many itineries for the Caribbean, so you can see lots of different islands - but also agree with other posters that after a while the islands can appear similar. So it is worth researching and planning, so you get the best out of each island. For example the sting rays on Caymen, swimming at the "baths" at Virgin Gorda, Dunns River Falls in Jamaica, shopping in St Thomas!!!! beach life on St Marteen, and so on. The next cruise I am going to take is not weather dependant, so am considering Alaska for the wow factor, the Balkins for the history and architecture, but think it will be the Far East - to get a taste of the islands / countries and plan another longer trip on the mainland(s). So again, most important choice is firstly the ship / shipping line and then destination. Go - enjoy - have fun!

personally, i like crossing better than cruising. I have done three crossings across the atlantic and one cruise to Alaska. The crossings were much much better. You really get familiar with the ship and have so much more time on board to have fun. It is easier to meet people and make friends. I still stay in touch with friends that i made years ago on past crossings.

this will be my third this year,i travel with p&o and they are nothing like butlins? they are fantastic,the service , the food everything? we did one to the canarys,and one round the med last year? were going round the med again this year,but visiting a few different places,we thoroughly enjoy them and would recommend them to any one? so the above mentioned are a couple of places to mull over , and also you mentioned alaska,we had a leaflet this morning from thompsons and princess cruises are doing one..splendour of the glaciers...its a 9 night fly cruise 23rd may 2008 flyuk/seattle-juneau-skagway-Tracy arm-ketchikan-victoria-seattle/fly uk? its Â£1075.00 plus free stateroom upgrade and when you get on board $75.00 per person on board credit? not bad deal at all that? enjoy whatever you decide? if youre wondering what the t is above its tracy arm,for some reason it wont do it on that line?

i worked ships for 10 years, my favorite destination is
Baltic, great cruises with Noritway, Sweden, Danmark, Estonia (amazing), Russia, Finland, Germany...
i would choose a small ship as well...
check the Thomson Celebration, cosy, great food and service and good prices.
The passengers are a bit old.
They always have overnight in Russia and late sails in Kopenhaggen...

I have been on many cruises and covered Alaska, Bermuda, the Mexico Rivera, the Caribbean, the Mediterranean and the Baltic.

After having been to most of the islands in the Caribbean I think they are pretty much the same in terms of sights and activities. So if your cruise does 3 or 4 Caribbean islands you will have 3 or 4 chances to do some of the same things. If you want something different and better in the Caribbean, do a cruise that includes the Panama Canal.

Having been all over the Caribbean, Alaska, Bermuda, and Panama I would rate my best cruise as the Mediterranean and the Baltic. The Med cruise included port stops that were truly unique. For example, on stop was in Civitavecchia and we went to Rome to see the Vatican and the Colosseum. Then we went to Napoli and saw Pompeii. The trip included stops at two Greek isles; different from Caribbean islands.

The Baltic cruise included St Petersburg, Russia, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Poland, Germany, and Estonia. All of the stops were different and unique. If you go to Alaska you will enjoy seeing beautiful scenery of mountains, glaciers, and maybe some wild animals. But a cruise that includes the Panama Canal, or the Mediterranean, or the Baltic is truly different.

When i was browsing the web to choose my first cruise i was hesitating between two destinations. Alaska was one of them, actually, but eventually i went for Baltic. It depends where u want to sail from. I was sailing from the UK. I did my research on the web and came across some pictures on one of the cruise travel sites. Picture of Stavanger in Norway just took my breath away. And the other thing i was after affordable something. Anyway, I've seen it on http://baltics.idealcruising.co.uk.
This year i want to go back to Norway fjords with my friends!!!

anywhere from los angeles going to baja california, its cheaper than the caribbean and alaska .. and there is benifets like no hurricanes or rain danger in summer or any other disasters

i think alska would be wonderful too but i have heard of people taking cruises to europe and they enjoyed so thats where i would wanna go.

Oh yes, have cruised Alaska in June, beautiful...a lot nicer than Med and carribean, went with Celebrity Cruises from Vancouver, can recommend it....take lots of film or memory card It was great because you call at all small ports where the shops are all next to the quay as opposed to a large port miles from anywhere...only had to use boat tender once. In June have long nights so you can stay on deck watching the passing mountains....Do go you will love it..........

I would be very careful about taking any cruise. They always sound upper class until you get aboard and realise its like a floating Butlins. Also worth considering that as soon as the ship leaves port, you are living in a lawless society, as the law of the land does not apply, it is down to the operators to provide law and security. I've heard some awful stories of people going missing (presumably overboard), robbed and sexually attacked with no consequences. Put me off for life!
