No, you do not have to be 21 to drink on a cruiseline. You can drink beer and wine onboard when you are 18, but you most have a permission form filled out by a guardian of at least 25 years old with you onboard. Most cruiselines have this policy. Here's a sample of Royal Caribbean's:
Alcoholic Beverage Policy
The minimum drinking age for all alcoholic beverages is 21. However, on cruises departing from European and South American countries, where the legal drinking age is typically lower than 21, a parent who is sailing with his or her son(s) and/or daughter(s) who is between the ages of 18 to 20, may sign a waiver allowing the 18 to 20 year old to consume alcoholic beverages.
The 18 to 20 year old must agree to comply with Royal Caribbean's policies, including among other things, agreeing to not provide alcoholic beverages to any other person regardless of age. Restrictions apply, and this policy is subject to change without notice. |

Cruise lines are strict and it sucks!
I think the legal age for gamling is 18, but thats only once your off shore. Alcohol is 21.
And no you cannot go on a cruise WITHOUT a parent/guardian unless your older than 21. Whoever the guardian is has to be 25 and older..... I think there's a loop hole to that rule if you prove your married, your 18 he's 20...something like that. |

now I was recently on a cruise and I swore I read that 18 year olds & up could have beer & wine...just not hard liquer.
In fact, I was in a hot tub with a couple who was laughing at their 18 year old daughter b/c she was having her first hang-over...
I don't think they serve to under 18 though...and even if you are over 18, your parents might have to sign to agree to allow you to drink (maybe, I am not sure on this one) |

it depends on what ship your on. i know that if you go on norwiegen cruise lines, that if your 18 and have some form filled out by your parent, then you can have alcohol. i think thats the only cruise line that does that. if your under 21 on any other cruise line, then i dont think you can have alcohol. too bad for you. |

You must be 21 to drink on all Cruise Lines. Even though they are registered in different countries and they are travel to international destinations you still have to be 21 to drink alcohol. If you are on a strickly Euro based or other country cruise line it may be different, but if you are looking at Princess, Carinval, HAL, NCL etc. It's 21+ |

i'm pretty positive they wouldn't serve alcohol to minors. if that's what you're asking. that'd be illegal. (or is it because the cruises travel to places where the drinking age is lower? in that case i still think you couldn't be served on the ship as a minor, but if you got off the boat and went to a restaurant or bar on land they'd definitely serve you) |

Most of the cruise lines around the world have set 21 as the legal drinking age as many have experienced problems with younger drinkers.
I wouldn't try a fake ID either as cruise lines are governed by the laws of the country in which they are registered and laws about providing false ID are much more stringent outside the US, especially with the terrorism concern. I can't really think of any cruise ships that are registered in the US.
Sneaking alcohol aboard a cruise ship is also not a good idea because any alcohol you purchase is taken from you, stored and returned to you at the end of the trip. However, if you bring the alcohol aboard and you are under 21 you'll have the alcohol confiscated and the problem again with the law.
How will they know if you are sneaking alcohol aboard? You and anything you bring aboard will have to go through the same security check and x-ray as you do at the airport. The ID that you will have to show when you leave and reboard the ship contains all the data from your passport.
Avoid a lot of problems, give up on the alcohol, and just have a nice time on the cruise. |
