What is the difference between port holes and windows on a cruise ship?

Portholes are round, and windows are square. I always book an inside room because I do not really want the window. I prefer the dark. I also only use the room to sleep, shower, and dress, so why pay extra for it.

A port hole is a small round window that can be closed from either the inside or the outside. Portholes are normaly founded on the lower decks off the ships. Note the word small.

Windows are ordinary windows that you can look out through. On a normal sized cabin they tend to be small but some ships have large ones all across the cabin.

If you like to watch the sea then choise a cabin with a window or a balcony. Hope it helps! Johan

Port holes are small, round windows.

While windows are regular square windows, that can vary in size, depending on the ship and type of room you are in.

Neither of them open on cruise ships.

If you want to get some fresh air in your cabin, get a balcony room with a door.

private
Port holes are hinged windows that can be opened.
windows cannot be opened
ships also have doors and hatches.
Doors open and close normally.
Hatches have lever handles to close to prevent flooding.
The left side of the ship is the port side.
The right side of the ship is the starboard side.
The front of the ship is the bow.
The back of the ship is the stern.
Ships travel in "knots," not miles.
There are two types of bearings in which ships travel.
True bearing is when reading a compass is north is north.
Relative bearing is when north is measured from the bow.
With this knowledge they may make you "assistant of arms."

Port holes are small round windows, usually about 18 inches around and on cruise ships they do not open. They provide a very minimum amount of light and a limited view of what is outside.

On the other hand, when you have a cabin with a window it is usually about the size of a small window in your house, about 2 to 4 feet wide (depending upon the ship and deck) and 3 to 4 feet high. On some ships the windows are picture window sized. Some ships have windows that overlook an internal open space area, a mall, and these are generally very large windows. We just sailed on the Royal Caribbeans' Adventure of the Seas and it has large windows for internal cabins that overlook a mall area.

Portholes are round and generally much smaller. Sometimes they open -- usually not much of a view. Windows are square and larger and usually only open if you have a balcony. Unless you have an obstructed view, you can normally see pretty well out a window.

someones friend
The size of the window. Usually port holes are smaller and round. Windows are bigger and rectangular. Neither of these will open.

A port hole is a small round hole that is barely bigger then your head. It gives you a very small, limited view of the water. A window is much larger and more spacious.

Czech_Mark
port holes are round windows. windows are square windows.
