What is your ideal cruise length?

Well, I like 7 days, because it fits well into my vacation schedule and budget. It also takes me about that long to "decompress."

That said, shorter cruises are also good, but apart from length they have a different "feel"....

3-day weekenders: These are popular as a modestly-priced vacation or mini-break. Weekender cruises tend to have a younger demographic and are lively and often party-oriented.

4-day mid-week: If you can cruise mid-week, these can actually be cheaper than the 3-day weekend cruises. Unless you go during the summer or school holidays, guests are typically retired.

1-4 day repositioning cruises: Unlike the regularly-scheduled short cruises, short repositioning cruises are occasional events that occur when a ship repositions (e.g., on the way to Alaska for the summer). These cruises are a good way to "test" a cruise line (or cruising in general) to see if it appeals to you. They are usually a good value, but will need to buy at least one one-way flight; these cruises are never round-trip.

5-day: A few cruise lines are now experimenting with 5-day cruises. These seem to cater to working-age people who want to take a week off work, and have a day on either end to travel to and from the port.

7-day: This is by far the most common itinerary, as it fits best into working people's vacation schedules and most people's budgets. In general there will be a wide range of ships to choose from, including the very newest ships.

For the first timers I recomend shorter cruises such as 3 or 4 day lenght cruise will be ideal and combine with land tours but if you like ocean you will fall in love with your ship and the staff - cruise vacations are real fun my personal opinion stick with 7 days best lenght and bargains also offered!...

I take it that this is your first? I would highly suggest the 5days 4 nights if this is your first. Add some extra days to recoup at the end of the trip for possible ( drinking, disembarkment syndrome symptoms, and some gold ole' down time).

7 days if you have the time, money, and experience.

10 days if you want an extra fun vacation, have the money, and can take a long vacations. Not for your first time though.

I would say 7 days is my ideal cruise length because i don't feel like I get the full cruise experience when on a shorter cruise. I have been on 3 day cruises and they were great too, but I wished it was longer.

For me longer the better. It takes a lot of work to get ready for a cruise so by the time I get there I am exhausted. It also takes a few days to get organized with what I want to do and trying to catch all the functions. I have taken a 5 night and one 9 night but the rest have been 7 night and I was sorry when they were over. The week goes by so fast.

The longer the cruise the older the people...keep that in mind. For my honeymoon my hubby and I went on a 12 nighter...we were the youngest people on the cruise!!! SO boring!

It depends on your money situation..but honestly i would rather NOT book a cruise less than 5 nights.. i think a 7 night cruise is ideal. The time goes by so fast on a cruise, you are busy having so much fun and meeting new people. Anything less than 5 days would be a RUSH RUSH. You dont get your luggage til about 7pm the first night and you have to put it back out in the hallway for pickup for disembarkation the night Before the end of your cruise, so that means you get ur luggage at your room and get it all put away about 8:30ish pm the first night and would have to start packing it all back up 3 1/2 nights later. So a 5 night cruise would be really pushy and rushing. I have been on a 5 night, 6 night and 7 night cruise, and i really think 7 nights is just RIGHT.

Alot depends on the amount of time you have. Myself will only go 14 + days. Am leaving for a 6 week cruisetour in alittle over aweek. Did the 7 day cruise but, too many things to see & do. Like everything in life everyone has different tastes. Also depending where the cruise starts & ends is a big factor. Do you want to spend more time on the ship or see different ports of call ?
Either way a cruise is the best vacation going. ENJOY.

For me it's 7 days. If I could afford it, I'd go for 10 but no more than that. I'd have to pack too much!

The last cruise my husband and I took was 10 days. We were only looking for a 7 day but wanted to do the southern Caribbean and all 7 days were out of Puerto Rico. The cost of the airfare was more than the difference between 7 and 10 days. We really enjoyed the extra time. We met and befriended more people that way too. Next year we're contemplating a 14 day.

Depends on where you want to go. Most places like beach-based lands or anywhere fairly near where you are, I'd say 7 days because, well, first of all, you'd want a longer vacation! Second of all, I'd think there is so much to explore while you are traveling, both onboard and at land; 3-5 days, I hear, are WAY too short. If you go to Europe, I'd pick 10 days or more because Europe has SOOO much to offer and explore.

Our last cruise was 10 days and we loved it! Seven is the shortest I'd consider doing. Shorter cruises tend to be more "party hearty" cruises, which I'm not crazy about. Also, you don't really get relaxed and unwound in that short amount of time. Even with 7 days, it seems all too short.

try 10 days. more time to really relax. entertainment is good but also knowing you don't really have to cram everything into a short amount of time, we liked the freestyle cruise.

OK with everyone spoutin out 7 I have to disagree. Personally I think the best is a 5 day. Here is why. you get time off before hand and time off after to unwind from the cruise (assuming your taking an entire week off of work). You can fly down a day early and fly back a day late. I highly recommend this because of airline delays and possible boat delays (it does happen). Also like another poster said the longer the cruise the older the crowd. A 3 day cruise is absolutely crazy filled with crazy people. 4 day is a bit more relaxed (with craziness) but seems to end too fast. 7 day cruises you will go out and the clubs will be empty (yes empty). if you want to take a cruise with your parents and their friends do the 7. if you want to have some fun and not feel rushed do the 5. I have done 13 cruises so far and TRUST ME! 5 days are the porridge that's just right!!!

Here is some info: Cruise lines are always looking for more ways to attract passengers with unique onboard activities, and hence, the creation of theme cruises. Crystal, for instance, features an annual series of food and wine cruises where well-known chefs and sommeliers conduct demonstrations and tastings on board. Holland America does an annual big-band cruise on a transatlantic sailing from Europe. Radisson Seven Seas has cruises themed on antiques and the arts, as well as cruises where Le Cordon Bleu chefs offer workshops. Silversea has designated sailings where visiting chefs are present, as well as special wine sailings that include lectures, tastings, and guided tours of wineries, as well as golf cruises with play at noted courses. While Cunard no longer offers the full roster of theme cruises it once did, on the Queen Mary 2 the line does feature an extensive educational program that includes workshops led by graduates of the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts.......
