What kind of cruise ship would an eleven year-old enjoy the most?

TINKERTOY ..... the 1 & only
I have been on many cruises with several different cruise lines and my advice is the best cruise line to go on with kids is Royal Caribbean. It has the most on-board activities for kids and the other cruise lines cannot compare. Royal Caribbean is also a cruise line that caters to young cruiser and families. It has things like ice skating, roller blade-ing, mini-golf course, a full sized basketball/tennis court, the rock climbing wall, and on the new Freedom Class ships the surfing simulator, the Flowrider. It has an area on its ships called Adventure Ocean (which is totally free) which has programs for kids of all ages between 3 and 17. It has a special teen disco area that is open until 2:00AM each evening. The RC ships that you should look for cruises on are the RC's Freedom Class and Voyager Class ships. You can look at the features of these ships on these two web links:

Freedom Class:

Voyager Class:

After Royal Caribbean the next best would be Carnival. Carnival is the budget cruise line that generally has the lowest prices. They cater to young people, first time cruiser and families. The best of their ships are their newer ships so do pay attention to when the ship was launched is you find a really cheap cruise.

While Carnival is good for kids, you will have a much better cruise on Royal Caribbean. I also recommend a 7 day Western Caribbean cruise because it will have better and cheaper access to beaches and beach activities. AND, Royal Caribbean has THE best private island for its cruises at Labadee, Haite.

It depends on what he/she enjoys doing. The newer Royal Caribbean ships have rock-climbing walls, ice skating rinks, and even bowling. Family friendly ships have age-appropriate clubs that offer a ton of great activities, parties, and games. If he/she is a big Disney fan, the Disney Cruise Line has a lot to offer kids of all ages as well. They just launched their 3D digital theaters onboard as well, featuring first-run films with 3D effects. And they are the only cruise line to offer a fireworks show at sea!

Hope this helps.

Stephi sayz BOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It depends on what the 11 year old would like. There are certain cruise lines that cater more towards the younger demographic such as Disney, Royal Caribbean and Carnival. Other cruise lines that cater towards the older demographic are Holland America and Crystal, however, HAL has an excellent kids program, so some kids would enjoy HAL or Crystal. Most major cruise lines have massive sized ships, so for first time cruisers, it can be a bit daunting at first.

Cruising is one of the best experiences a traveler can have!

We took four kids ranging in age from 10 to 16 on a Disney Cruise. In addition to having cool excursions off ship (we went zip-lining through the jungle and swimming with dolphins) there are always things for them to do onboard. There is a kids club only where adults are not allowed, animation workshops, a teen hangout area, daycare, pools just for kids (and just for adults!), food everywhere, characters. The food was excellent and we had a great time. Your first day there they give you a tour of all the kid areas and then you can pretty much just let em go! They get a room card that allows them access to arcades and such and they can go back to the room whenever they want. If you leave your child at one of the activity areas they give you a beeper in case the staff need to get hold of you.

I thought it was awesome, and I'm not a kid! It's a little more pricey than say a Norwegian cruise lines or Royal Carribean but we went on a 10 day cruise. You can probably get really good deals now that the economy sux!
