For clothing options, it's casual except you need one fancy item of clothing for the formal dinner one night. I think the black dress would be fine.

Have fun on the cruise!

You should wear a long, elegant evening gown, knee-length dresses, or pantsuits to formal dinners on a cruise ship. I am going on a Carnival cruise in a few weeks and I am wearing this dress from JC Penney:

Hope you find something nice to wear!!

What cruise line are you going on?

Honestly you will see people all over the board. Certain lines like Carnival have a far more casual interpretation.

You will see formal dresses like prom, the majority will be in cocktail type attire, and there are always a few trying to get by in khakis and polo shirts. On Carnival they let them in the dining room. On more upscale lines like Princess, they won't let you in the dining room. The more upscale the line the more upscale formal night.

You can chose to not eat in the dining room and you can wear whatever you want. Some people change as soon as dinner is over so when you are dressed for dinner, you'll see people on ship in jeans and a shirt.

I usually like to be formal though.

Something like that. But you'll see this as well

as well. It's really up to you.

I've only been on Carnival and I just wear a cute cocktail dress. But I've seen women wear a nice shirt with a skirt or pants too.

Almost forgot.. bring a sweater or something to wear over the dress too. For some reason it's always been a bit chilly in the dining rooms.

Cocktail dress or a dress you would wear to a wedding/party type of thing. Some people go over the top with ball gowns etc. but they are actually in the minority. You can wear some nice black trousers and fancy top if you don't want to dress up too much. My problem was with shoes - I really did feel the motion of the ship and could not wear the high heels I had taken. On my next cruise (June 09) I am definitely going to take travel sickness pills - and some lower heels!

Just something you would wear to a wedding. A cute dress, heels.

Ok heres a few tips:
You can wear a nice black dress, or a cocktail dress (both formal wear), usually these types of dresses are dark toned. For casual you can wear a sundress. Heres a few examples:

Hope this helps :) Happy Cruising!

I didn't see any cocktail dresses or tuxes worn on Carnival Inspiration lst October (2008). Most of the women wore nice slacks.

Just wear your "Sunday Best" or as if you're going to a wedding and you really want to dress up without being formal.

I wore a nice blouse over a sleeveless shell, and a pair of slacks with dressy/casual shoes. My husband wore a long-sleeve shirt, tie, jacket and slacks with dress shoes.

Next time around, he's scrapping the jacket.

Good luck, have fun and don't stress over dress. :-)
