it depends on wear your cruise is leaving from and what you most comfortable wearing. If you cruise is leaving from some place hot such as Miami or Mobile, and you don't mind flip-flops then wear flip-flops, sneakers are good to because they are very comfortable and you might be walking around alot, exploring the ship. so either sneakers or sandles. whatever is more comfortable to you.

TINKERTOY ..... the 1 & only
You should wear some comfortable walking shoes because you will do a lot of standing in line and walking the first day. First you stand in line to check in, then to have a bearding photo taken; then to have a security photo taken if they do not do that at checking; then to find your cabin; then to explore the ship and get lunch. Then after that is the life boat drill and you will likely be standing for about 15 to 20 minutes for that, depending upon how they do it on your ship (some ships they have people assemble in the show room and/or a lounge rather than on the prominade deck).

So you can wear shoes with a sole or sneakers or sandals, your choice and your feet. BUT, if you plan to get in the pools, hot tub, or go to the gym, then take shoes in your carry on bag for that. You checked luggage will likely not get to your cabin until much later after you board; maybe by 6:00 PM.

The first day of the cruise the ships are not as concerned about what you wear to the main dining rooms shoes included) because they understand that not everyone will have their luggage by then. So if you wear sandals or sneakers to dinner it will be OK.

Comfortable gym shoes, you will be exploring alot of stuff on the ship.

I would bring flip flops or slip on tennis shoes or just even regular tennis shoes. Depending on the shore excursions you plan to do you will definitely need walking shoes which tennis shoes are most comfortable to me personally. Then you will of course need dress shoes to wear to the main dining room for casuaul, semi formal, and formal nights. Have fun. Bon Voyage.

I'm planning to go on the Carnival Ecstasy on Dec 22 out of Galveston. What I'll do is get some new shoes right b4 hand & have them ready to wear on the day we depart.

It does not matter, but you need to where something that is comfortable and that you can wear standing up for a while. If you can not wear flip flops hours at a time, don't where flip flops. You will be doing a lot of walking and standing up, so just where somethign that is comfortable to you. Flip flops or tennis though, dont where heels... Have a great time on your cruise*

I always wear flip flops or some other cute type of sandal. I would never wear sneakers on the first day!!! Usually I just walk around the ship, go in the theater (it's cool when it's absolutely empty!), check out the shops, locate the restaurants and other stuff on the ship. I usually eat a chicken sandwich and french fries from the grille place on the first day. Sort of a tradition :)

It depends on how cold it is. Being there is a lot of walking on the ships, try your walking shoes.

Personally, when I go on a cruise I wear my flip-flops becuase it's quite warm and you won't be going very far, especially on the first day.

However, if you feel more comfortable in sneakers/trainers then maybe you should go for that.

Don't wear anything formal or expensive, just something comfortable that lets your feet breathe.

You can use any kind of shoes depending of what are you wearing. If you are planning to keep well dressed for dinner that day the shoes must be decent ones. No jeans nor sneakers are permitted at supper.

I like to wear a pair of sneakers, you will do alot of exploring, or you could wear comfortable sandels.
