What shoes do I need for Alaska?

I'm going on an Alaskan cruise and I have no idea what kind of shoes I will need. I'm only doing a few wilderness kind of things...any ideas what I need? And if so, where do I get them?

Questioning Machine
i went on the norweigan star cruise to alaska only about a month ago,
it was fun and it was HOT,

when i got there it was like 88 degrees in a town called juneau

anyways, i recommend a formal shoe, for formal night.
a hiking shoe, and a regular sneakers.
and of course flip flops

i suppose it would be warm there around this time.

You will need several types of shoes for the ship including some to wear to the pools and hot tubs; your ship will likely have a covered and enclosed pool/hot tub area.

Then you will need shoes for going to dinner on ship, both the formal nights and the sports/resort casual night, but these can be the same shoes. They should not be flip flops and not sneakers for the main dining room and formal nights.

Then you will need good walking shoes for your off the ship tours and these can be sneakers or some other type enclosed shoes, like Timberland. A recreation store like REI ( http://www.rei.com/ ) , or a sporting goods store like Sports Authority ( http://www.sportsauthority.com/home/index.jsp ) , or Dick's Sporting Goods (http://www.dickssportinggoods.com/home/index.jsp ) will have what you need. You will not be walking in snow unless you do a tour that take you for a walk on a glacier or a dog sled ride. You will/can also use the sneakers for the gym or walking the track on ship.

Nearly all Alaskan cruises go only to Southeast Alaska. Even in summer, Southeast can be a bit rainy and windy at times. Any hike that you are going to be doing will be a simple day hike so you don't need to lay out the kind of money for back country shoes like Vasque. My suggestion is a good all around hiking shoe by New Balance. Their model 965 is excellent, with good waterproofing capabilities. I am on my second pair and I use them constantly working around the place and hiking. I live in the Northwest, so I buy mine online at onlineshoes.com. If I call one day, they'll be delivered the next. If you have a good local online shoe store, you might try there. I have wide feet and onlineshoes.com will always have my size. A further suggestion, take a rainshell of some type that is loose. That way you can layer up with a wool sweater under it if it is a bit cool without looking like a total geek. I hope this helps, I spent 5 years in the Arctic of Alaska. Have fun.

What ever is comfortable, provides a good grip on a potentially wet surface that will keep your feet warm.

Plan on it being cold, but not icy, when you go out on deck. The deck should have a non-slip surface, but I wouldn't wear flip-flops.

Tennis shoes would be a good example.

You "might" want hiking boots if you go on a hike, but tennis shoes would probably be sufficient.

In the winter, snowshoes.

When it's drier, waterproof hiking boots. Merell is a good brand, REI carries that and others.

You need Snow shoes the ones that look like tennis rackets and shoes that don't let in any snow so your feet don't get frostbite I don't know where you get them check amazon.com
