it all depends on where you are going, i'm assuming someplace warm since you did not specify. And this is all for one person:

1-3 bathing suits
tank tops
tshirts
shorts/capris/skirts
undergarments
1-2 pairs of pants (for when it's cooler at night)
pajamas
a jacket, hoodie, or sweater
1-2 formal outfits (for the formal dinner)
several semi-formal outfits (the dining hall requires that you wear nice outfits, not jeans and a tank top/tshirt to eat as it is a restuarant)
at least one pair of dress shoes
flip flops or sandals
sneakers and socks (if you plan on doing land excursions)
water shoes (needed for certain excursions)
sunblock
any hair supplies needed to style hair (rooms come with a blow dryer and bathrooms have shampoo and body wash and toilet paper)
hygiene products (i would bring an unopened bottle of shampoo and conditioner because what comes in the bathroom is not a lot-- deoderant, soap, feminine hygeine, toothbrush, toothpaste, floss, mouthwash, face/body lotion)
sunglasses
a clock or watch
a bag to bring anything you need when you go off the ship
any medication you may need plus aloe
all your travel documents including your passport

you do not need to bring a towel (for shower or beach) because the ship supplies you with beach towels and bathroom towels and washcloths

have fun

Be sure to take along a power strip. There is only 1 power outlet in the room.

A second swimsuit...they never dry hanging in the bathroom and who likes to put on a wet suit.

1 or 2 of those giant XXXL Ziploc bags for wet, yucky clothes.

Sunburn meds.

A light sweater/jacket for nights on deck.

Plenty of $1, 5 and 10 in US dollars for shopping and taxis in port.

Mark the handles of your luggage with brightly colored ribbons, yard or plastic marking tape to help you find it upon debarkation. Trust me...there will be a sea of black luggage in the cruise terminal.

Pack anything valuable, breakable or that you want before midnight in your carry on luggage. This includes medicine and any habit items (gum, smokes, etc.)

A extra canvas bag to haul home goodies if you are a shopper.

Power strip
Small clock
Minimal clothes (I always bring home a suitcase of clean stuff)
Extra bathing suits (the pools are salt water and the suit get
sticky and dont dry nice, even after rinsing
Flip flops , the decks get hot
Sunblock and aloe, the sun is alot hotter than here
Cash for while in port, you wont really need any on the ship

bring as little as possible! you have to keep track of all this stuff! Bring a camera, a couple comfortable and cute outfits, underwear, bras, sandals, toothbrush, toothpaste, floss, a little makeup, bathing suit, tanning lotion, hairbrush, extra film, sunglasses, tylenol, motion sickness medication (will be expensive on board if you need it), one nice outfit with matching shoes and jewelry, a book or word games, a pencil, your purse with money in it or credit cards, and a positive attitude.

It's in your cruise booklet, read it.

I brought a power strip, but never needed it - the only thing plugged in was my iPod dock which also doubled as a clock. There are no clocks, so bring one.

The hair dryer on board was good enough, and I have medium-long curly hair. bring a curling iron if you want.

Otherwise, same stuff you'd bring on a vacation to the beach, with the addition of something nice to wear on formal night. Some people bring one dressy black skirt and 2 different tops to save room. No one will notice. Don't forget the shoes with that outift.

If you have snorkeling equipment - try and at least bring your mask and snorkel. I squished my fins in as well, the loaner fins are really basic.

Small purse to carry your room card and lipstick on formal nights.

A bag to bring a towel, water bottle (bring your own water if you can), book, sunscreen, etc for days at the beach or excursions.

Most importantly, medication and money! Also, suntan lotion, empty paper towel tube (for the autographed placemat given to you by your dining room staff on the last night), swimwear, a power strip (staterooms have only one single outlet). night light (if an inside cabin), pint of liquor in your luggage, camera, MP3 player, a couple cans of pop, flip flops or sandles, sunglasses, in-flight snacks and a couple extra Zip-Loc's in your carry-on (if flying), If you're subject to motion sickness, buy wrist bands or Bonine at Wal-Mart. These items are very expensive on board, If you need to call home during the cruise, purchase a prepaid calling card on some island and use a public phone. Cell service on board has major roaming charges. Internet cafe on board is 75c a minute, best to not need it.
Things that are provided and you do not need to bring with: shampoo, cream rinse, razors, hand lotion, ice tea, lemonaide, bar soap, hair dryers.
Bon Voyage!!!

There are formal dinner nights, so you'll need at least 1 formal dinner dress. Bring everything that you would anywhere else, toothpaste, toothbrush, hair dryer, mousse, makeup. Whatever, it's like a hotel. I went on Carnival and if I recall, there was a store on board, plus you deboard in cities and can pick up anything you forgot.

Well, to add to the things that the others answered here, don't forget your travel documentations as well. It is correct that you won't really need cash on board, credit cards will be more useful.
