Probably any cruise the family is with her. Who wants to celebrate their birthday by themselves?
I prefer Royal Caribbean because Carnival has lots of kids and they depart near my home. I have kids, but I don't bring them with me. I know that sounds bad, but I need time to reconnect with my husband.
If she is new to cruising, maybe a 4 or 5 day to start with. |

In her case, for her age, traveling alone, I would recommend Celebrity, Holland America or Princess Cruises. |

A small ship. Big ones are so impersonal and shallow!
Where would you REALLY like to visit? Get a cruise that includes it!
Nowhere is impossible now!
- We've been to Easter Island (where the stone heads are) which is in
the middle of nowhere in Southern Pacific, a long way from the UK!
- Stood amoung 200,000 Penguins (very smelly) in South Georgia, in
the middle of nowhere in Southern Atlantic!
- Swum with wild sea-lion pups in the Galapagos Islands!
These "real" memories stay with you forever! The shallow and trivial visits to "tourist sites" soon get forgotten! |

I recently cruised the Hawaiian Islands with NCL (Norwegian) and I love their Freestyle cruising concept - there are no designated dining tables or times, you eat when and where you choose, so it allows greater flexibility with your vacation time schedule. Although the dining rooms enforce a 'casual elegant' dress code, there are no pretentious formal nights; so you can pack more functional clothing in your suitcase. The cruise suited all passengers from young families to the elderly, the main demographic being the 40 -60 age group.

I'm almost 60, but have been cruising with Princess for about 15 years now. They would be perfect for your mom,or for you too. They have lots of activities for all ages and are a very classy cruise company.BTW, the big ships are just as fun as the little ones. |
