I have been on nine cruises so far and find this mode of travel very relaxing. Once you get onboard, you unpack and then it's off to explore your home away from home for the next week or so. You can go up on deck, buy a cocktail and watch as the ship sails away (and often people in the port will be waving to you and small boats signaling a greeting).

Then you are escorted to your assigned dining table (if you are on a ship with traditional; there are freestyle ones -- NCL, and anytime ones -- a choice on Princess). You meet your waiters who will try to get to know your preferences over the course of the cruise.

You can take in shows -- broadway style big musical ones or sit down in a lounge where a jazz band is playing. You can join in on pool games or trivia matches. Or you can lay back on a deck chair and read while you sunbathe. It's up to you what you do.

You can also work out in the gym or get (for a fee) a massage.

There's also the ports. You can take an excursion (the ship offers them; there are also ones available independently) or just go exploring on your own (that's what we do most of the time). Another option is to stay on the ship. That can be fun too.

I've been on two cruises already and they were both awesome! You are never in the same place, you don't have to drive anywhere after drinking all night, and it's a lot of fun to meet different people. I have another cruise booked for next month out of New Orleans and it's going to be a blast. You'll never get a chance to do some of the excursions available anywhere else. I highly recommend cruising for vacations!!

I am a back packer through and through, but when we went to egypt, we went low season, so we were offered an amazing discount (65 percent off!) for this 4 day cruise down the nile, including a guide at each stop on the way down to see all the ruins, food, drink and accommodation. It was a five star luxus cruise ship and I have never stayed in a 4 star anything (apart from in Ethiopia... where they are more like minus 4 star!!). Loved every minute of it, but did notice that people treat you differently when they see you come off the boat. I was not really interested in all of the sights, if I was, I dont think I wouldve done a cruise, as its basically get on, get off, see what you must, then back on again, where as usually I love mixing with the locals more!.

Loved the treatment and the pampering, it was hard to go back to back packing after that!

I LOVE cruising. I have only been on two different lines (Disney and Carnival) and FAR recommend Disney. If you are looking for a cheap, extended booze cruise, take Carnival. If you are looking for a clean, fun experience, take Disney.

I am single in my mid thirties and have no children. I have cruised with boyfriends, family and friends on Disney, and every cruise I have taken with them has been flawless (I have been on 6 Disney cruises). I have taken three carnival cruises and the first two were not as much fun. The ships were older and tacky and they didn't have enough activities onboard to keep me entertained. I guess they want everyone do do nothing but drink so they will wander up and gamble everything away. However, I will say, my last Carnival cruise was better. It was on the Glory and it is a nice BIG ship. The rooms were great (get a room with a verandah!), but the food and the activities were still lacking.

The best advantage of cruising is that you can travel to a few different cities and only have to unpack once! I love having everything there - restaurants, dining, clubs, spa, recreation all under one roof.

Enjoy!

Most people find that cruising is the best vacation they have ever taken and quickly become 'addicted' to that lifestyle. The costs are fairly low considering it is basically all inclusive with you only being responsibile for alcohol, tours, extra personal services, and tips. Meals and basic services including shows are all included. Very safe and the most bang for your buck. We have done over 2 dozen in the last 7 years

I have been on several cruises and absolutely LOVE them. You get such a bang for the buck with cruises.

For a cost of anywhere from $80 to $250 per day - you get room, meals, shows, entertainment 24 hours a day PLUS the opportunity to visit many countries all without unpacking & repacking.

You can be as with people as you want. There can be 3,000 guests on board plus 2,000 employees - a floating city!

You can be as alone as you want. You can find a quiet empty deck with a chaise lounge & nap, read, listen, watch for sea life and get lost in your own thoughts.

The crew on the ships are wonderful and go out of their way to make your trip pleasant.

Room service 24/7.

You will most definately want to go again. And again. And again.
