Whatever happened to the idea of building a modern version of the ill fated "RMS Titanic"? |
Back when the movie "Titanic" came out I heard that there was a group that wanted to have designed a biult a new modern version of the Titanic, it was even featured in Popular Science or Popular Mechanics. I've heard nothing since. I've been a big fan of the Titanic even back in my junior high school days.

Please only answer the question if you have something intelligent to say.. It sunk does not qualify.. and dishonors the 1,503 people who perished on the original ships maiden voyage. |

The queen Mary 2 is probably the closest, but it's far bigger and more updated. It's not the 'Titanic 2' any more than it's the 'Olympic 2'. It's simply an old style type cruise ship.
I found a ton of gossip on 'rebuilding the Titanic', but nothing concrete. I don't know how functioning a replica would be as technologies have changed and the demands of passengers have increased immensly. I just don't know that there would be enough space. Even the Queen Mary (original) is small by today's standards, and it's bigger than the Titanic was. I understand they could put current technology in, but they still have the size issue. I guess it could be an upper class 'novelty' boutique ship and could possibly make it. As long as no one thinks there is a "Titanic" curse. |

I don't know if this is true but I recently heard from a friend of my husbands, that they are in the process of actually rebuilding the ship.. I don't know if its going to be exactly like the first....or if this is really happening...but maybe.

Maybe they are planning a new ship, but they certainly aren't rebuilding the one that sunk in 1912! I personally believe that the Titanic 2 was planned, but it was renamed the Queen Mary 2 because they didn't want to disrespect the many people who died thay day. |
