Whats good to take on a cruise for sea sickness?

I was told on my first cruise to have ice water with lemon with your meal, and I have not had any problems at all,

the other best advice is when you first get on the ship try not to over eat and avoid greasy food, after the frist day you should be fine

if this is still not enough then you can try the meds for it

now if you are really pron to sickness as I am not, there is a patch that I have been told is very good, this you can get from your doctor

i went on a cruise for christmas and my sister is normally very motion skick but she only got queasy one day the whole 5 days..... if you do get sick they have motion sickness bands in the gift shops on carnival... i hear those work pretty well...

The patches have been banned in Australia due to many serious side effects. And even once removed it takes at least 24 hours for problems tro resolve. I worked on cruise ships for MANY years and the most effective medications were Dramamine and Phenergan-theyt need to be taken 1 hour before sailing and regularly till you get bused to the motion of the ocean.You will find they normally warn you if the seas are going to get rougher! You need to keep something light inyour stomach e.g. dry crackers .

Well, my mother was a physician and LOVED the wrist bands. She found them extremely helpful when we cruised together.

The scopalamine patch definitely works too, but according to the instructions you should only wear them for three days at a time because the chemicals are not really good for you. And it's only available by prescription.

At the front desk they will have bonine or some other variation of dramamine. It's best to take it before you feel sick, though. And it makes some people drowsy.

the patch is good too, but still the bands are better.

I used a Sea Relief electronic wristband. They go for around $100 but it worked great! You can pick them up at boating stores, or online.

I take ginger tablets. I get seasick easily (though I have never gotten seasick on a cruise ship). I was warned in advance that one cruise might be a little rough (we had a storm following us). I took one ginger tablet with water before breakfast and one ginger tablet with water before dinner. I was fine while I heard others on the ship did get seasick.

I like ginger because it is not a drug and because it is the only thing that worked on Mythbusters.

To avoid seasickness in the first place, about a week before your cruise, start taking 50 mg of vitamin B6 three times a day.

On the cruise, keep taking the B6 three or four times a day -- it's easy to take one with each meal and one at bedtime. Sometimes it's nice to have a cup of ginger tea for extra help, so you might take some teabags with you. Or ginger capsules.

We have been on 9 cruises, and with the B6 never had any trouble, even when sailing through Hurricane Gilbert.

More is not better. Don't take more than 200 mg of B6 in a day, or it can cause nerve damage. You'll only be taking that much for the duration of your trip, though; not that long.

I like bonine, its the same thing Md's prescribe but available over the counter. It lasts for twelve hours so you don't have to take it often and it's non drowsy. I take it and haven't had a problem with sea sickness. I had a friend who was very sea sick, I gave her some and it helped her feel better.

Your doctor can give you a patch that you wear behind your ear. Their are other, over-the-counter things you can buy but they will make you sleepy. The patch is the best option. I doubt you will get sick though. I've been on two cruises and honestly, most of the time you don't feel the boat at all.

Bonine is what my husband swears is the best thing ever. It's stronger than Dramamine. That's what's in the patch. Both are over the counter.

There are lots of over the counter ones you can try. No need for Rx strength. I agree that normally you won't need it but always good to be on the safe side. After all you may have to tender to the port. Or take a shore excursion that involves a boat ride. That boat is a lot more rocky than the cruise.

I recommend trying it out prior to the cruise just to make sure you don't have any reactions. It's non-drowsy but each person's body is different.

gravol... the pharmacy on the ship will have all kinds of sea sickness remedies if needed.
