I would suggest a Nile Cruise it's brilliant just came back and want to go again. Great scenery, great weather, food is good also. You can go on lots of tours which are normally included free or if you want to relax just stay and chill out on the boat.

I have been on more than15 cruises on four different cruise lines, Celebrity, Royal Caribbean, Princess and Norwegian. I highly recommend all of these lines. I have cruised to the eastern and western Caribbean multiple times, to the southern Caribbean twice, to the Panama canal, to Alaska, to the Mediterranean and to the Baltic countries.

My favorite cruise line is Royal Caribbean and my favorite ships are their Radiance class ships which include the Jewel of the Seas (been on that one), the Brilliance of the Seas (been on that one), the Radiance of the Seas (going on that one next yr) and Serenade of the Seas. I have been on RC's new mega ship the Freedom of the Seas and will go on the new NCL ship the Gem this year.

I really enjoyed most the cruise to the Mediterranean where we went to the Vatican City and also saw the Coliseum in Rome; the city of Pompeii in Naples; the leaning tower of Pisa; the Acropolis in Greece; and the biblical city of Ephesus in Turkey. After that I liked best the Panama Canal cruise. I also enjoyed our cruise to the Baltic states.

I am not sure what your purpose is in saying that you are from Scotland, most of the times there are people from 25 or 30 different countries or more on cruises and the staffs are always multi-national. If you are looking for a convenient or inexpensive way to get to a cruise departure port from Scotland (so you don't have to spend hundreds flying) look for cruises out of Dover, England. We did our Baltic cruise from there and you can probably get there from Scotland by train for a fraction of what an airline would cost. We actually took the train from London to Dover. Some cruise ships also go out of Harwich, England; probably another easy port for you.

Barcelona: and Harwich cruises:

Then there is also Barcelona, Spain. You can I am sure get a train there also, or take a short flight that may not be too expensive. We took our cruise of the Mediterranean (Italy, Greece, France and Turkey) departing from Barcelona. Then we have a cruise booked for later this year out of Barcelona that goes to the Western Mediterranean (Spain, Portugal, Morocco, Gibraltar, and the Canary Islands.)

eight-hours
Well not on the mini cruise from Aberdeen to Shetland that's for sure One big con and very expensive!

Where do you want to go? What do you like to do? DO you need to leave from the UK or are you willing to fly to another departure port in another country.

I am particularly fond of Caribbean cruises out of Florida. Numerous cruise lines travel out of there to multiple locations. The Alaskan cruises are always a great treat out of Vancouver or Seattle. And of course there are so many European cruises the can be conted and leave usually out of Dover in the UK.

A great consideration is a Hawaiian cruise, beautiful islands, and great weather.

Most of the cruise lines can meet your needs, and everyone has their favorites.

For the top of the line book a suite on Radisson cruises to Scandinavia.

Also remember that you need to figure out a budget and time for your holiday before any consideration into the cruise can be made.

I would recommend seeing a full service travel agent who can help you with reservations, finding the right cruise for your tasts, budget and time constraints. Also consider a travel agent will also help with any passport/visa needs you have.

Have a great holiday!!

Like Tinkertoy I have cruised to Caribbean and Alaska...I thoroughly enjoyed Alaska which I did with Celebrity cruises. The scenery was outstanding, and unlike many cruises the dock was right next to many of the small town centres so you did not need to catch buses and taxis into town. Saw lots of wildlife, went on Whale watches and had a brilliant time. Why do you mention Scotland...the only one which goes from Scotland is the Hebridean Princess, which by chance we have booked for next year...it costs a fortune, so I would not recommend it for a first time cruiser and will probably go to places you have already been. There are as many different cruises and destinations as you can think of...do your research, but I loved Alaska, and not a place you can easily get to other than by cruising.
