Depending on your carrier, you may or may not be able to use your phone. I have T-Mobile and I know that AT&T both work onboard some cruise ships. The person making the call is the person charged the international fees. It was $4.99 per minute when I was onboard and used my phone. (Important tip: turn your phone off when you are not using it. If your phone is on and the call goes to voice mail, you are charged for 1 minute even if you are not answering. If your phone is off, it does not route it the same way and you are not charged) To call from the ship is usually around $10 a minute. It is a lot cheaper to use your cell while in port, so if your phone works while you are in port I would recommend using it there. |

You cannot use your cell phone out at sea. The ships have Maritime Telecommunications Network (MTN), which is a satellite phone line. You will be charged for your calls and internet usage. Every cabin have a phone in it. Only you will be charged for phone calls |

The person on the cruise that is making the call is the only one that would get charged. I have at&t and was able to use my cell phone at sea on a few cruises. I try to use it infrequently onboard because its very expensive, $2.49 per minute. Using it at the ports is a little cheaper. |

Well everyone is right about how expensive it is to make a phone call. The only thing is if you are calling someone else's cell phone, very few carriers have free incoming calls. Or if the person you are calling is on the network.
With most carriers, you are charged for receiving a call as well. It uses your minutes which may or may not cost them depending on their plan.
But yes you will be charged the international rates. If your phone even works. However my plan includes Puerto Rico so I called some people from on the ship when I was docked in PR. You aren't using the ships towers then but the local towers. |

First of all, your not going to be making any cell phone calls when you are out to sea. Because there are no cell towers in the middle of the ocean. If you call when you are moored up (along side the shore) you are the one who will have to pay- not the other person. Depending on where you are though. If you are in Europe and you call the States- then yes you will both be charged. If you are in the Bahamas and you call the States- you pay thats it. If you call your cell carrier they should tell you what fees apply. I hope this helps! |
