Yes, and actually I have found that the cruise staff can be helpful and informative about activities at each port of call. On my first cruise I paid for shore excursions, however since then I ask around and I've been able to enjoy many of the same sites, tours, and excursions as other passengers. My suggestion ask around and enjoy yourself. |

Once your off the boat you're free to do what you want. Just make sure you get back to the boat before it leaves! I think it is a good idea to do at least one of the activities the cruise offers if it's reasonable. I did a "snorkeling and cruise trip" they had set up, and it was definately worth it. |

yes you may go to the beach! just check the time they posted in order for you to return back to the ship..... basically it is 30 mins before the ship leaves the port. some cruise company organize a beach trip.... which is most safe and convient.... but if you want to go alone you may. some port are only walking distance away from the beach. or just ride cab... enjoy your cruise.... |

You do not have to take a shore excursion offered by the cruise line. You are free to walk on your own and see whatever you like. Taxi will most likely also be waiting at the pier to take you to a beach if you like. |

yes, you can take a taxi to the beach if the ship didn't dock near it. your not required to do the cruise ships thing. they just sell it as an extra to be more convenient for people. |

Make sure you are back in time when the ship leaves. Some folks drink a little too much and loose track of time. |

Depending on how much time you have on land you can also rent a car. We do this all the time so that we can see the whole island and experience as many beaches as we desire.
