If you don't take your passport, you will not be able to leave the boat. I'm not sure if they will let you back into the country if you have no proof that you live here! |

The U.S. Government will soon require all of our guests (including U.S. citizens) to be in possession of a valid passport when traveling on any Carnival cruise. Foreign nationals should contact their respective governments to obtain further details. This requirement may become effective as early as January 1, 2008.

It is not required as of yet....... by Jan 2008 you will definitely need one.
The problem with not having one while cruising this year.... is ...if for whatever reason you need to shorten your cruise time, and you need to fly back from whatever island the ship is docked... you will have a problem entering the US without a passport. |

Technically at this time (2007) US residents DO NOT need a passport to travel on a cruise leaving the US (as opposed to flying). However, to disembark and board you WILL need to show your Cruise Ship ID card AND a form of identification -- and a Passport is the best form of ID you can carry anyway, so if you can, get one before you leave on your trip.
In a worst case scenario (missing boat, illness, accident, situation in country, etc.) if you are stuck in a foreign country and need to fly out, or prove you are a US Citizen, you WILL need a passport, so it is just safer to have one. |

Yes!!! You need to get a passport ahead of time because it takes time to process it and have it sent back to your home in the mail. You need your passport to get on the boat, and to get out and in to each of the places you visit. It is a very important part of taking a cruise! Yes you need a passport! |

I just got back from a 10 day cruise on Monday. We had applied for a passport but it did not arrive on time. We just used our birth certificates and Drivers License. You will need one starting January of 2008. So we'll be set for next cruise next year. Bon voyage. |

If it is a cruise outside your country's boundaries - yes. |

I would say yes. If the cruise docks in another country, or if by any chance it needed to, you could be stuck there if you don't have a passport. |

You'll need your passport to disembark from the ship at any foreign port. Most cruise lines will require you to have a passport anyway. If you lost it while on the way, you'll have to stay aboard ship until you return home. |

As of the beginning of this year, if you are a US citizen you need a passport unless you are traveling to Puerto Rico |

YES. They are usually very strict on this. You can't get a ticket without your passport. Depends though on where you will be heading for. I am from Asia and needed a multiple entry U.S visa to cruise to the Carribean... |
