We always arrive in the day before sailing.
These days, there are so many travel issues that could cause you to miss your cruise!
Having to deal with the airlines, road traffic and the embarkation process in one day would really put me in a bad mood to start my vacation.
Many hotels near cruise terminals offer specials like free parking and shuttle service to the port terminal. |

I try to - if Airlines mess you up, you're out of luck (unless you book your flight via the cruise line, which is MEGA expensive compared to every other option). It may not be covered under your travel insurance, too (be sure to get the cruise travel insurance in case you get sick - they won't let you board the boat if you have so much as a cold).
Don't forget: Arrange for hotel drop off at the dock, too, AND pickup to the airport from the dock. |

I always like to arrive the day before. To me the day we board is the first day of vacation. I enjoy checking into a hotel, sleeping in til 10, getting my free breakfast, and then all I have to do is go check in to the cruise ship, get on board and get my lunch and drink my wonderful drink. That's relaxation.
Where as, the other alternative would be to get a ride to the airport, check in at least 1 hr early, stress of being in the airport and extra fees to check bags, fly all day and get there late. When you get there later in the day, there is a longer line boarding the ship and you miss lunch.
If I lived within 2-3 hours of the port, I'd probably drive that day so that I could still get there by noon. |

I arrived a day before that way i can make sure i wont be late to get on the cruise ship.. because if you leave the day of then you are taking a chance of missing the ship if the plane is late or however your getting there by is late then you miss out because the ship doesn't wait for anyone.. |

I normally arrive a day or two before. That way I'm already there and won't have any issues making the cruise and it gives me time to relax and explore the area a little. |

Well it depends how far the port is. I live very close to Galveston so usually I just arrive the day of. However, when I go to Vancouver or wherever for a Alaskan cruise, I would arrive the night before. |
