Upscale thrift shops often have wonderful things! I went on the world cruise of the QE2, and one of my friends -- who can literally afford anything she ever wants but still chooses to spend carefully -- bought every one of her outfits for formal wear and almost everything for informal wear at a thrift store that sells bridal and mother-of-the-bride and prom dresses! She always does that for world-cruise type of travel, and seldom keeps anything after the cruise, re-donating it to the same shop. |

They do dress really nice on the formal nights. My wife bought her dress at Nordtroms rack. That is Nordtroms outlet store. She got a great deal on a beautiful dress. You do not want to buy anything on the cruise ship because they tend to have high prices. I believe you can access it through www.nordstrom.com. |

it does not have to be a dress for eligant night. a nice pant suit works well.
However, i tell everyone you sunday best is good enough.
Or you can find a cheap one at places like Ross, K-mart, Wal-mart, and look for sales on dresses at Pennies, sears, etc.

I've been on several cruises, and some with 3 formal nights! I buy most of my cruise dresses from the Clearence rack at Macy's Department Store. I have come away with some killer dresses for less than $25! |

I would also say a consignment shop.
sometimes you can find clothes with manufacturer tags still on them.
you can find great shoes and purses that way too
