There are several places to go in December, The western Caribbean, goes to places like Cozumel, Grand Cayman, Jamaica, Belize, and Costa Maya.
The Eastern Caribbean go to St. Thomas, St. Maarten, San Juan, Grand Turks and Caicos.
The Southern Caribbean go to Barbados, Martinique, st. Maarten, Aruba, and Dominica.
The best pricing for a December Cruise is the first two weeks of December.
Carnival ships, do a 5 day to the western caribbean. They have a nice childrens program, but those ships that do the 5 day are the smaller ships. The 7 days have the larger ships and in most cases the newer ships.
Carnival has games shows that families can interact with, in the dining room, they dance and sing for entertainment.
Royal Caribbean ships, cater to the clients in a personal level. They dont do the dancing in the dining room, BUT they do have the rock climbing walls, putt putt golf, and on the newer ships, they have the ice skating rink and in line skating...
Royal Caribbean is known for their service, and food quality.
Contact your local Travel agent for the best pricing and best cruise for your family. They will ask questions and help you decide which ship and ports would be more fun for YOUR family.
Travel agents also are connected to all the cruise lines and their inventory, so there is no second guessing.

Hope this helps...

Hello,

Do you need air too or are you driving to to the port?
Sometimes during the holidays the air is as expensive as the cruise.

A lot of websites offer good rates including 1Cheapcruise.com

If you're a first time cruising family, I suggest an eastern Caribbean cruise.

It gives you the opportunity to see a few places and if you go with Royal Caribbean, most of their ships travel to CocoCay, Bahamas which is their own private island. The kids can do snorkelling, food courtesy of the ship is served right on the beach, and it's an all day adventure. Be sure to get off the boat first or second to get a good chair or hammock. This is a GREAT combo cruise.

Talk to a travel agent that has alot of cruise experience. Each cruise line has a different "personality". What one person would enjoy, another would hate. Tell your agent what you are looking for (lively cruise, great sights, pampering service, no kids, alot of kids, etc.) and ask him/her to recommend something. For example, you would not want to take your children on Holland America. Nor would you want to go on Disney if you had no children and wanted to gamble.
Any place in the Caribbean will be warm and it is past the official hurricane season so you should have calm waters. Prices are least expensive between, but not including, Thanksgiving week and Christmas week. The rates go up for holiday sailings. If you go the week before Christmas, you should find reasonable prices and still get the added touch of a ship decorated for the holidays.

No matter what your age I loved the Disney Cruise. Might want to check out the 7 night Western cruise and if you want to go to Europe they just announced a new inirary.

The Bahamas/Caribbean is warm around Christmas and would also be low in cost. Lines like Royal Caribbean and Carnival will have the lowest rates. Royal Caribbean would my choice from the two.

Hawaii would also be great, but is starting to get more costly. Outside of Hawaii, the Caribbean, Bahamas, etc. it is really going to get costly.

Not the usual cruises , but most interesting would be the one that goes down the coast of So.America & around cape Horn, such a variety of places to see & savor,Not many people have gone on a cruise such as this,it is great for families to see,& it is the reverse weather of ours,Dec.is their summer.call a reputabletravel agency dealing in So.Amer.cruises,an alternate to the above would be the Panama canal cruise, also a different type of cruise.

I have always had good luck with cruisedeals.com, they have reasonable rates and you can find a variety of cruises. Another plus is that you can search by departure port, which I've always found very helpful.

Also check out cruisecritic.com - you can find out what other people are saying about different cruise lines, etc. I believe they have a board for special deals.

As far as destinations go, the caribbean is always an excellent choice, I've only been to the western caribbean, but it was wonderful. There is something for everyone!

We like Royal Carribean cruise lines. Try the Explorer of the seas. The ship is the real fun, the ports of call are the icing on the cake. It's out of Miami. The food is better than Carnival.

I enjoyed Celebrity's 11 night Ultimate Caribbean cruise. It goes all the way down to Panama, where you can take a train ride coast to coast and visit the canal locks.

You will pay more in December because everyone wants to get out of the cold that time of year.

Closest & easiest are Caribbean & Western Mexico cruises. Agree that the time between Thanksgiving and just before Xmas are going to be the best value. Bahamas might be cool because it is just east of Miami and this area cools down in Dec. Any cruise that will include the Xmas dates at the start, during or end of the cruise will be much higher in price. If you are planning to go during that time of the year you need to book ASAP as cruises for this time of the year fill up quickly and there are many cabin categories on the cruise lines that are already sold out.

Also, include travel insurance for travel during this time of the year in case you encounter weather delays, but book insurance yourself vs. buying it from the cruise line which might be 2X as much.

Book your cruise with a travel agent, especially if you've never cruised before or are unfamiliar with the booking details.
