Mexican Riviera is really nice, but you do need to realize that your sea days out of California will be chilly. We did this cruise and loved it once we were in Mexico, but the sea days were to cold to lay out at the pool (that is our fav thing to do on sea days). As for the caribbean it depends on what you want to do. Western Caribbean is usually less expensive and has some nice choices myan ruins, snorkel, rain forest, zipline, atv, dune buggys. some ports not as clean. Eastern or Southern usually cost a little more, but there is a lot of really good shopping, most of the stops are cleaner. I have been on 18 cruises and have been on all of the caribbean cruise itineraries except turks which I have heard is really nice. I have also been on the Mex Riv cruise. Since money is an issue I have a hard time getting away from Carnival pricing. I love carnival. They have really good food, 24 hour pizza, 24 hour ice cream, a lot of really fun activities. You will have fun with either of these choices. If you have more money to spend then Royal Caribbean or Princess are also very nice, but they usually cost more. In order to go on the cruise you will have to prove you are married as you are not old enough to go without being married. This is as per cruise line min age requirement. You will also need a passport if you plan on going after June 1. I know I gave you more information than you asked for, but i figured that some of this information was things you had not thought about.

You can also try the western carribbean which is beautiful. If you book now through a travel agency then you can do payments. They have plans that are about $230 per person. The earlier you book the cheaper.

There are a few factors:
1. If money is an issue, which is cheaper to fly to (or can you drive to a port).
2. If you want a nicer ship, the big cruise lines put their new ships in the Caribbean, however there wil still be nice ships doing the Mexican Riviera cruises.
3. Both areas have similar price ranges. I have had better experience in the Caribbean, but if you can find a very good discount on a Mexico cruise go for it.

The ports of call in the Caribbean are generally less populated than those on the Mexican Riviera. Places like Grand Cayman, the Bahamas, and Cancun are not major urban areas. But, places like Acapulco, Mazatlan, and Puerto Vallarta are. The ports in the Caribbean also offer more water-based excursions, while Mexico offers more tour type of excursions. If that makes any difference to you.

As someone said, it will probably be colder in San Diego than some place like south Florida or Texas. But, if you take a cruise out of places further up the eastern seaboard, it would probably be colder than San Diego. If money is a concern, you'll probably take Carnival. And, the Carnival ship operating out of San Diego (the Spirit) is about 6 years old. I don't know about the Carnival ships operating in the Carribean. But, I seem to remember there were a couple of newer ones out there.

I think the biggest factor for you is going to be how much it costs and how long it takes to get to the home port. I live in San Diego, so I just have a 10 minute cab ride to the terminal. I went to the Caribbean out of Galveston one time and it took about 8 hours to get there. First there was a 3 hour flight to Dallas, a one-hour layover, a connection to Houston, and then a 2-hour bus ride to Galveston. I also had to stay the night in Galveston at added expense. And, it really sucks to get off the cruise ship with the knowledge that you still have 8 hours of travel to get back home.

One last thing to consider: The reason I went out of Galveston was that the original home port was New Orleans, which had just gotten wiped out by Katrina. At first, the cruise line couldn't tell us whether they would have it put back together in time or, if not, where the substitute port would be. And, we were running out of time to get our airline tickets. Then, when they announced it was Galveston and we got our airline tickets, it almost got taken out by Rita. But, San Diego isn't going anywhere. So, you won't have something like that to deal with.

If you do go to the Caribbean, get your airline tickets as a package deal with the cruise tickets. If the port changes for any reason - even at the last minute - it's the cruise line's responsibility to get you a flight to the new port in time at no additional cost to you.

I think you should go for Caribbean. There are lots of beautiful places for you to visit and loads of activities can be done along the cruise. It is far more worthy.

I've been to both places and the Caribbean is by far more romantically inclined.
