Well you should definetly go with royal caribbean. RCC is great for familys and couples. Their ships are also the biggest and the best. At 155,000 metric tons you would imagine there is something to do on there. Their currently biggest ship (also the largest ing the world) is Freedom of The Seas, Liberty of The Seas, and Independance Of The Seas. There are all the same but the each have a huge rock wall, a surf simulator, mini golf course, adult only hottubs hangimg off the edge overlooking the sea, ice skating rink, boxing ring, flat screen tvs in every stateroom, Royal Promenade (like a mall), Presidential Family Suite with 4 bedrooms and a private balcony and hot tub, and all the regular things like theamed bars and resturants and much more. Your grandma will love the ship and the ports of call. The price will be around $1,000 per person though but its worth it!!

IF money is no option - definitely go with Celebrity or Crystal. BEAUTIFUL ships.

My Mother went on Crystal and said it was top notch! We also like Holland America. I suggest that you check out cruisecritic.com and review the different ships but don't read into too much cause some people just like to hear themselves complain. Whatever ship you choose you will have a great time the ships crew work really hard to see that things are top notch.

you can go to the national cruise business association by googling cruise business. they have what is new coming out on the cruise lines which ships are new ect. YOur grandmother would pay more for cruising on a new cruise ship
celebrity, crystal, seabourne, are some of the cruiselines that are supposed to be very good.

If money is no option, then the super luxury lines like Seabourn, Silversea, Regent and Crystal are the ones that can offer a five star experience. However, the passengers on these ships are not very active. Also, while these lines maintain their ships well, none have new ships (though Seabourn has two on order).

Ships are build in three stages. Once the plans are approved, the metal has to be cut and welded together into sections. This takes about 9 to 12 months. Then the sections are moved to a dry dock where they are welded together. This takes another 9 to 12 months. Finally the ship is floated out and tied up to a wet or finishing dock where the interior work is finished. This takes another 9 to 12 months.

As a result, each cruise line will usually one receive one new ship per year. If the cruise line has orders for ships from two different builders, then the cruise line might receive two new ships in one year. So, there are no cruise lines with lots of new ships. Carnival, Royal Caribbean, Disney, NCL, HAL, Celebrity and Princess all have ships on order. Each has one that either has, or will start sailing this year. Each has one that starting sailing last year. So if new is important, then your choices are limited to one or two per cruise line.

If a top notch experience is important, then the cruise lines can be classified as mainstream (three star), premium (four star) and luxury (five star).

Some of the better known luxury lines are listed above. Some of the better known premium lines are Princess, HAL and Celebrity. Some of the better known mainstream lines are Carnival, Royal Caribbean, NCL and Disney.

If activities and service are both important to you, then I would recommend Princess, Celebrity or HAL. On the super luxury lines the passengers like to entertain themselves, and thus there are not very many activities. These ships might have only one outdoor pool and one indoor pool.

HAL and Princess all have more than one outdoor pool. I don't recall if Celebrity does (my last Celebrity ship tour was almost one year ago). All three offer more activities than the super luxury lines do. Thus one of these three lines might be your best combination of service and activities.

Carnival, Royal Caribbean and NCL all offer non-stop activities (I don't know about Disney, I have not sailed with Disney). However, all offer what would be considered good service, not outstanding service.
