Which cruise line is the best for college (Norwegian, Celebrity, Carnival, Royal Caribbean)?

I am in college, and am looking for a cruise that won't have a lot of kids or old people (maybe other college aged people would be good?). I've read up that Royal Caribbean has 55+, Carnival has kids, but I'm not sure if this is true. What is your take on Norwegian, Celebrity, Carnival or Royal Caribbean?

I would definitely look towards Carnival... Its more of a gambling, partying, staying up late, laid back type of cruise... Its also really affordable, so you can definitely manage that on a budget. Just make sure you budget in the extra money to spend... Royal Caribbean is suited more towards families, and then Celebrity is really upscale and pricey at times, and then Norwegian is more of a family cruise line and not worth the extra money...

I've been on carnival and royal caribbean and I like royal caribbean a lot better. The carnival ship I was on was very boring. There were actually more older people than twenty somethings. The nightclub was dead every night, most people were busy with karaoke. The day time was even more boring as they had no activities. I had to sleep to pass the time. The royal caribbean cruise was just the opposite. They had so many activities during the day like ice skating, salsa lesson, rock climbing, that it was impossible to be bored. At night the club was always off the hook. We partied every single night in the club, and at some of the other lounges. There was a good mixture of young and older people. I would recommend royal caribbean, its fun and they have a lot more to offer than just alcohol.

Royal Caribbean. Carnival has the most partyers, but you can't get a room by yourself unless you are 25. RC, Norwegian, & Celebrity are 21. NCL & Celebrity, I hear are the old ones. RC is kind of family-ish, but it should be okay.

I really like Royal Caribbean. Although there are older people on the ship my brother and I (27 and 24) had a great time hanging out at the bar with the older crowd. It was a blast. There were people our age on the ship but it was mainly honeymoon couples. There were not too many kids on the ship. I have never been on a Carnival ship but I believe you will find more 18/19/20 year olds on that ship as well as kids. Carnival prides themselves on being the "fun" ships while Royal Caribbean is more for get out there.. which could be a saying for more older people. I think Carnival might have what you are looking for but I have never been disappointed with the people that were on my ships. I think you make it as fun and exciting as you want it to be.

I use Carnival as a family vacation but I like to go when there are less children still and if you go when school is in the number of kids is very low, as far as the older people go you will get them on all ships and all lines, I have never had any problems with any people regardless of age. keep in mind Carnival has the strictest age requirement: Guests are required to be 21 years old (on embarkation day) to travel. Guests under the age of 21 must be accompanied in the same stateroom by a parent or guardian 25 or older.

Overall, your best bet probably Carnival during the summer or school holidays, a 3-day weekend cruise or a 7-day. Carnival is more nightlife oriented than RCI, and generally more fun.

You get more retirees on longer cruises and mid-week cruises (because they don't have to worry about vacation time).

However, any cruise that's at a good time for college breaks will also be good families -- your spring and summer breaks are the same as the elementary schools. That said, at least on Carnival and RCI they know how to keep the kids busy.

You can get some info on how to choose a cruise, based on what matters to you, here:

I went on a Cruise with Celebrity and it was loaded with 55+ age group. Carnival is good they are considered the party boat. If you don't want a lot of kids on the cruise try going when school is in session.
