Skalywag

Which would you choose? AND WHY?

Thinking of taking a vacation (When I have the Money).
I'm trying to choose between a Carribean Cruise or an Alaska Cruise? I love both climates and would have two young teens 11ish with me. Focusing more on family and fun - which would you choose?

My wife and I have been to both places and lived in the vicinity of both. We sail out of Galveston (TX) because it is the closest port and we don't have to worry about storing our car at the port (family cares for it). Caribbean is where we have spent most of our trips because of the warm weather, there are more tours/excursions to choose from, more countries to visit, and you can go at any time of the year. Alaska, on the other hand, has limited tours, although it has a land package which is expensive. Alaskan cruises are usually cold and rainy. The best time to take those tours is May (when some of the flowers are in bloom and animals coming out of hibernation) through early September. The first snow is mid-September. We just (last weekend) returned from another cruise to Key West and Georetown (Grand Caymons).

I would take the Caribbean cruise with the two youngsters. The weather is much better for the beaches, swimming etc:
The Alaskan experience is brilliant but not really family and fun style. Better to do that when they are a bit older.
You'll have a good time whatever you decide to do.

CARRIBEAN ALL THE WAY, so much more fun. Kids will love it way more too but it really depends on 'whatever floats your boat' (no pun intended) :)

Both are great places, but if this is about having fun with the kids. I would have to say take the Caribbean Cruise, because you can have more fun. Because you can be out and about in the elements more. Have fun!

cruise junkie
I mwould say the Carribean , for your kids.. fun in the sun great shore trips ..swimming ,shopping . more fun onboard ship pool side ..

I would say Alaska hands down. Kids can go to the beach anytime. Where else are they going to see whales, bald eagles, sea lions etc. Plus Glaciers, scenery that compares to none. Carribean they will go for spring break. Alaska is someting everyone should experience at least once. Either way sign up at that the different cruise line sites for emails on all specials.
Either way ENJOY.

I would say Alaska Cruise because you and your family have probably been to the beach before, and even if the water is more clear and warmer in the Carribean, you will not be getting a completely new experience. Alaska, however, is a once in a lifetime experience.

You know your children. What do they like to do? If they are into swimming, snorkeling and general warm weather activities, pick the Carribean cruise. If they are interested in glaciers, hiking, wildlife, pick Alaska.
We've taken our children on 2 Carribean cruises and they loved them. When asked about Alaska, they weren't interested.
Alaska cruisers tend to be older than Carribean cruisers.
Good luck, which ever you choose.
