Carnival's recommend tip is $10 per person per day. This is shared among your cabin attendant and your wait staff. A 15% service charge is automatically added to all drink purchases. You can increase these amounts if you wish.
http://www.carnival.com/CMS/FAQs/Gratuities_Tips.aspx
What is the tipping policy onboard?
Service Gratuities
For your convenience, we automatically charge the gratuities for dining and stateroom staff to your onboard Sail & Sign account. The total amount is $10.00 per guest, per day (our recommended guideline) as follows:
$ 3.50 Per Day Stateroom Services
$ 5.50 Per Day Dining Room Services
$ 1.00 Per Day Alternative Services: distributed to other kitchen and hotel service staff
For Cruises-To-Nowhere, gratuities of $10 per guest, per day must be prepaid.
Our Staff is totally committed to exceed your expectations in every way possible. If you are not satisfied with the service you receive, we encourage you to contact the Purser’s Information desk while onboard. This will allow us to address your concerns in a timely and appropriate fashion. At your discretion, you may adjust the gratuities at any time.
For beverage purchases, fifteen percent of the bill is automatically added to the Sail & Sign charge. Room Service staff may be tipped as service is rendered. Tipping your Maître d’ is at your discretion, based upon the service you receive. |

the cruise line automatically tips $10 per person per day onto your ship account (i personally don't like that idea) you can go to the ship desk and have it changed if you don't want it to be done. |

Trust me they will automatically bill your credit card for tips!! They are very sneaky about doing so without asking for your permission up front. You can (and many do) have the charges removed from your shipboard account. They bank on the fact that most people wouldnt dream of doing so because it makes them look cheap. In my opinion (and what I always do) THE BEST THING TO DO is to dedice what you are comfortable with tipping on the credit card......Then on the last day or so of the cruise you can still give cash tips to anyone who really went the extra mile for you......This way encourages employees to go the extra service mile for you. ALSO and important as well.............Why should a worker that works their butt off have to share their tips with a lazy worker.....This is exactly what happens with they way the cruise ships pay their employees..............Are you catching on yet???? |

Carnival will inform you of the recommended guidelines for tipping and they are for the most part more than reasonable. the most important person to tip well is your table steward. On the side-on the first diner sitting you attend slip him a $50. advance tip and have a short but pleasant conversation like " I'm sure the meals I receive are going to be everything I expected and we as well as you are going to be more than satisfied". The best investment you will ever make. sit at the second sitting for diner if they have separate seating's. Other than the above just follow the guidelines of the cruise ship director or it may be printed somewhere for you to read re:tipping. have fun |

I think it's about $5 a day (for each of you) for the cabin attendant. And about the same for the dining room ($5-10). What you do is put the cash in an envelope - leave one envelope on the bed for your attendant and slip one to the table captain - this is done at the end of the cruise. |
