They are probably retired as I cannot see anyone going on this type cruise to do work. And they are probably also rich or very well off. I have been on several Princess cruises and they do tend to have many older cruisers anyway.
Now if you pay my way I will be glad to go and then give you a first hand account of those on board, including many many pictures of the ship's passengers, the ship and its port stops.

Very rich - and very lucky.

Sounds great, this is only a guess:
A. Retired
B. Rich that they don't need a job
or
C. Both

They average passenger? That could be almost anyone at any age from anywhere! I suggest that you buy your cruise from a travel agency so that you have an accountable and knowledgable person at your service. They cost no more than buying direct!

Obviously people on this cruise have to be in a position where they can either work while on the cruise (via the Internet) or don't need to work. Also, people on this cruise have either saved up for a long time or have a lot of disposable income.
Princess is not the only cruise line that offers a round the world cruise. Holland America, Crystal, Cunard and others also offer round the world cruises.
For a couple, these cruises can cost from $40,000 to $200,000 depending on the type of cabin selected. They are all done early in the year and all go from east to west.
