NCL norwegan one is crap do not take them. I took celebrity and honestly for 2 weeks it was only $1100 bucks. NCL has had nothing but complaints no matter where you look. They make it look like freestyle cruising is fun and much better but it really isnt. A friend of mines aunt took NCL once and said she had a horrible time and they had to wait till 11pm to have dinner because all the resteraunts were booked solid.

Celebrity and Carnival and Royal Carribbean are your best bet.

There are a limited number of ships cruising to Alaska and the season is very short. There really isn't a "cheap" cruise to Alaska, although the first few and last few trips are usually the least expensive [late May and September]. Alaska cruises also have the added expense of airfare that arrives/departs from different airports and getting from the debarkation port [if it's in Alaska] to an airport. This is one time using cruiseline airfare and transfers may be worth it, although you may need to pay extra to be able to book a flight that's actually convenient for you.

Carnival is usually the "cheapest" and is pretty good, if you don't mind Las Vegas glitz, a more party-hearty crowd [though Alaska isn't a big party cruise] and a low-level of food and service [this is relative - you're not having to cook and clean up, so it's all good, as they say]. Norwegian may be about the same price but they get very mixed reviews, highly dependent on the particular ship.

Go to your library or bookstore and get a book about cruising. It will give you a general idea of what's involved and the nature of the different lines and ships. An experienced travel agent will also be of great help.

Good luck!

Carnival is usually the cheapest but it depends on months, length, past cruiser, where you live for resident discount. I am going on princess for spring break to the carib and they are having awesome deals but it depends on those things. If you go to cruisesonly.com that will help you a lot because it mentions all cruise lines :)

Went on Norwegian Cruise Lines to Alaska last summer and by far the best cruise I have ever been on. The price is cheap and you get all the fun, amenities, and personal service as the big lines. Have fun.
