If you read the stories they were all drinking alot and climbed on to the railings and lost their balance. Afew did this showing off and fell over board. I have been on over 20 cruises and the railings are high enough that unless your are 10 feet tall there is no way you could just fall over board.
Cruises are very safe. So when some happens it makes the news every where. Same as a plane going down like last week.

It is a very rare occurrance, and generally seems to involve too much alcohol and/or suicide paired with something really, really stupid like climbing up on rails. If you stay off the rails you will stay on the boat. People do NOT toss each other overboard! Go have fun.

Cuz people are stupid.

You cannot "accidentally" fall off a cruise ship. I mean, you have to put some effort into it to get over the railings.

AND...if your stupid enough to put yourself in a position to fall overboard, then, you know what, I don't feel sorry for you.

Or someone has to throw you off, and it seems when that happens the people all knew each other. There aren't a lot of people throwing other people they don't know overboard. It just doesn't happen.

Question -do the people who "fall overboard" have help.
I've been on 12 cruises and it's almost imposible to fall over board on any of the ships I've been on.
That leaves murder, suicide and being really stupid.
Suicide- there's a lot easier and less expensive ways of doing it.
Murder- You have to be with one cold hearted SOB for it to happen this way. Who will you be with???
Stupid- well that speaks for itself.
To be perfectly honest I wouldn't give it a second thought.
This type of thing just makes fantastic head lines for the Newspapers. After all this is one time they can make up any story they like and no one is going to argue with them

Been on 20+ cruises.

The ships are designed to be very safe! Impossible to fall overboard if you act normally and use common sense!
You have to deliberately climb over the railings to fall overboard.
If you over-drink and then act the idiot you can fall in so I have no sympathy!

One can NOT just fall off a cruise ship. They have to climb up onto something first. I would have to guess that anybody who "falls off" a cruise ship just has to be drunk and most likely very drunk.

Given the amout of booze and drugs consumed on cruise ships I'm amazed that more people don't fall overboard. But as others have said, you really have to work at it to have a problem.
