Why are cabin stewards so rushy?

when I went of my Carnival cruise in June I was sitting in my cabin on the couch reading the caper thing. I heard a knock and since I had been walking around the ship all day and I was tired I put the caper down and got up and began walking towards the door. halfway there a second knock then the door just flies open and my cabin steward is standing there. he apologizes and leaves

When you didn't answer, he thought you were out of the cabin and so he entered. After the first knock, you could have asked who was there. Thus, the second knock and the opening of the door.

On average, they have 35 to 40 cabins to clean. They have to make (or change, depends on the company's policy) the bed daily, change your towels (unless you indicate not to), dust and or vacuum and arrange the clothes, papers, etc that the guests leave all over the place. And they must do all this work in about 10 minutes - it's not a lot of time to do all that work.

On some cruise lines, they work alone. On others, they have an assistant. No matter, they work hard at keeping your stateroom clean and comfortable for you, and most of the time they are invisible. I take the time to talk to them, if they can spare a few minutes. I try not to disturb them or ask for too many extras - I've seen them working and it is not an easy job. Appreciate them and recognize them. Speak to them if you see them. They are human beings first and foremost, and they have a hard job to do.

Johan from Sweden
With no answer after his first knock he asumed that your cabin was empty. There is no rush in that. Then he entered and saw his error, made an apologyce (I cant spell today) and left. I could see no error in his behavior except that he maybe should have asked you if its ok to clear the rom or not. Johan.

You'll hate me for this answer, but:
Carnival underpay their staff. Pay peanuts get monkeys.
I don't know anyone who has worked for them twice.
In general if you pay a bit more for a better ship you will have a much better experience.
Misunderstandings do happen, but if you have a real grievance then the Purser is the person to talk to.

He probably has a certain amount of time to clean the cabins and since you didn't answer right away (or maybe he didn't hear you), he assume he could enter.

trying to see if everyone is doing fine?

that does seem a little funny, but it is a big ship and he is probably timed

Stan
They are very busy and their work is tip-oriented so the harder they work the more tips they get (in theory). Once, after leaving my stateroom for dinner, halfway there I realized that I had left something back in the room. When I got back my room had already been made.
