Why do I get so upset when my parents go on a cruise? |
In February 2010, my mom and step dad are going on their 3rd cruise. I have to go to my grandparents house for a week. I am almost a teen. Why do I get so upset when they talk about it and when they leave? |

Probably for the same reason I got REALLY mad when my parents went to Italy when I was a kid and left me behind. I wanted to go to. In fact, I wanted to go so bad I studied every book they brought back, took Latin (Italian was not available), history and art history and then -- when I couldn't afford to go -- joined the Army to be stationed there! LOL
I finally made it (at least to Europe) lived there almost three years and now host exchange students and take trips every so often. My parents only got to go ONCE!
So, don't get mad -- get even! (jk) Study, save and begin your own travel fund. Talk them into letting you be an exchange student. Turn this into motivation to do something great for yourself! |

i had the same issue when i was your age, i was mainly upset that the fact that they left. my main thing was is that i just wanted to go with them. maybe they will take you when you get a little older |

It is called resentment. And resentment is jealousy.
You feel you are old enough to go, but they want alone time and when they talk about it, they are excited to go have fun ( without you ) and you are going to grandmas.
It is so hard to be a teen in any era. Your parents have every right to be by themselves and keep their marriage alive, for your sake as well as theirs. They are making sure you are safe while they are gone.
Soon you will be of age to go off on your own, but even then, your parents will still have the closeness they are cultivating. Actually, you are a lucky girl. So many teens have a less than ideal home life. Love Daisy |
