Will I be able to get a tan in Alaska? Is it hot/sunny there in the summer?

I have been to Alaska twice, once on business for two week in June/July and again on a cruise during late May. The temperatures in Alaska during the May through September time frame can be as high as the mid-80's. It just depends upon the weather pattern. In addition, in the middle of the summer the sun is up (shining unless its raining) from about 4:00 AM until about midnight. Now it will not be really warm/hot all of that time, but the middle of the day can be as warm as many other northern US cities. On my last trip to Alaska we walked around Anchorage in shorts and T-shirts and the temps were in the mid-70's.

So if you are outside in Alaska during the summer you can get a tan because you will have long days with sunlight. Now, in certain places where the cruise ships go, Like Ketchkan, Juneau, etc,, along the inside passage, it will be sunny but not warm because of the glaciers and ice bergs. And in these cities it will also likely be rainy as they get a lot of rain each year. BUT, if you are cruising to Alaska you should be able to have a few days when you can find a spot on deck to sun and not be cold. Many ships that do the Alaska cruise have what is called a Solarium which is essentially a covered pool and hot tub area. The sunlight comes in through the top but not the cold and there will be lounge chairs for sunning around the pool and hot tubs. In addition, most ships also have the pool deck down a deck below the top open deck so it is sheltered from the wind. There will likely be glass partitions and windows around the deck and you can get a lounge chair and catch some sun. This may be best done when the ship is in port to keep it from being breezy. That was my experience on a cruise.

I don't imagine that people expect to get a tan on an Alaskan cruise, but one never knows. Good luck!

It will most likely be sunny, but may be a little chilly at that time. At hot spell in Alaska is when it gets above 75 degrees. That is not often. You will so be in aaww of the state, you will probably be too busy anyways. No one goes to Alaska to get a tan.

No summer in Alaska is not like our summers.
It may get up to 55 and they have a short summer.YES ,LOT'S OF CRUISE SHIPS HAVE TANNING BOOTHS.

I thought Alaska was like sunny for 6 months and like dark for the other 6 months. And I thought during the summer it was dark? I'm not sure, but it might be sunny just cold, but who would want to be on the deck of a cruise ship in a bikini when it's like 30 something degrees outside. Just look it up.

Hmmmm well my friend went on a cruise to Alaska and said it was really cold... like there was no way she could have even gone out in a swim suit. She went the last week of July though. Although in most places July is the hottest month, I remember when I was there when I was 5, and They said their fall season starts earlier. I think their hottest month is June. It really just depends hun... weather is so unpredictable. :/ You'll have tons of fun though. Cruises are the best :)
