Will cruise lines give full refunds if a cruise is cancelled due to a Hurricane?

Does anyone know if Carnival or any other cruise line will give a full refund on a booked cruise if it is cancelled due to a Hurricane or do you have to purchase some type of insurance coverage to get your money back?
Additional Details
I did read policies and cant find anywhere about a refund in case of a weather situation. I have also emailed the cruise lines for an answer but they havent bothered to answer back......and the phone lines take forever to get through.....thats why I am here asking you guys.

If you're traveling during hurricane season, buy travel insurance no matter what!

As for cancelling a cruise because of a hurricane, it rarely happens!!! What the ship will most likely do is go to a different destination. You may be scheduled to stop in the Bahamas, but may end up in Jamaica instead. It just depends on the storm.

A cruise ship will never lead you into a hurricane though. And again, they RARELY cancel trips. As long as they can get out of port, you're okay. If you're traveling hurricane season, fly in at least the day before and get to the pier as soon as they start letting people on the ship. A friend of mine said she was on a cruise where there was a hurricane moving in. The Coast Guard made the cruise ship leave several hours before scheduled departure and all the people flying in that day missed the ship!

I've heard from many experienced cruisers that hurricane season is actually the best time to cruise. Just get to the port city a day early and get to the pier as early day of as possible! You'll be fine!

probably not but they might postpone it

JonZ
no. but i think they just wait until it is over then see if you want to travel without paying extra.

melissa p
No they don't

Aug the Conqueror
nope.

With a cruise, you should always purchase the travel protection. Not just because of the chance of a hurricane, but also because of the cost of medical care, if needed. It is inexpensive compared to the costs you may have.

More than likely you will not receive a refund if the cruise is canceled, it is just something they can't do because it is beyond their control.

Most cruise lines won't give you a refund in the case of a hurricane. Some cruise lines will create an alternate itinerary though.

Always purchase trip insurance when going on a cruise. Cruise lines policies vary, but in general you won't get money back without a long hassle.

No. ALWAYS buy the trip insurance, you could be very sorry if you don't! Remember, that insurance doesn't just cover your butt beforehand, but also while you are on board. For example, I got very motion sick one time on a cruise. This was my fourth cruise and I had never had a problem with motion sickness before, so I really wasn't expecting this to happen. I had to go to the doctor on board and I was so sick I had to be put on an I.V. This cost over $500, but when I returned from my trip I filed a claim on the trip insurance and I got my money back. Also, I used to work for a major cruise line and I can't tell you how many stories I heard first hand from people that didn't buy the insurance and had something unforeseen happen. The bottom line is, the cruise line can not control or predict the weather, this is what the insurance is for!
