Will the water be safe to drink? |
Leaving on a family cruise next month and bringing small children with us. Going to Puerto Rico, St. Maarten and Haiti. No too concerned about Haiti because the port is privately owned by Royal Caribbean but what about the other two? Does anyone recommend sticking to bottled water? What about the mixed drinks that have ice in it? Forgive me if I seem paranoid but I've never traveled outside the US besides Canada. Additional Details Yeah it is Liberty of the Seas, can't wait to go! |

Is it the Liberty of the Seas? I just got back on Saturday! It was great. Yes. You can drink the water on the ship. There is always water available in the restaurants and bars. They are served in glasses. The water coming out of the faucet in the bathroom tastes bad, but it won't hurt you. They provide ice in your room, too.
The real thing you need to be careful of is not catching a stomach bug. Wash your hands constantly!!!! They even provide anti-bacterial wipes before you go into the restaurants. If you do catch something they quarantine you in your room and you can't leave it. This is a virus that is caught like a cold. It has nothing to do with the water.
Puerto Rico is American so the water is safe. In St Maartin only bottled water was available.
Have fun! |

i love it that you are being safe and looking out for your family. the cruise ship will offer bottled water, but know that it is ok to drink unbottled too. feel free to google the matter on your own, but i've enclosed a website that will put your mind at ease. |

Water from the ship will be just fine. I have always had good experiences in San Juan, PR, and on St. Maarten. If you're concerned, though, just stick with bottled water or (gasp! with kids) canned soft drinks. |

DON'T drink the water!! They advise you NOT to drink the water in any ports! Just to be safe. They will usually tell you this on the ship. I would definitely stick to bottled water. Better to be safe than sorry!! Have fun!! |
