Will they show the Olympics on TV on a CRUISE SHIP?

Going on a cruise (Celebrity Mercury to Alaska) from Aug. 10-17th... will miss over half of the 2008 Olympics. Thus I want to know: do they have cable TV on the cruise? (more specifically, will they have NBC or CBC or sports channels)

TINKERTOY ..... the 1 & only
Cruise ships have satellite TV not Cable. But the programming is not really the same as either. You can generally watch TV in 2 or 3 places on ship. First, in your cabin the TV will have one or two of the network TV stations (ABC, NBC, CBS), probably ESPN, CNN, maybe the BBC, and then a movie channel or two showing free movies and maybe 3 or 4 more movie channels showing the same movies in foreign languages like Spanish, French, German. Then it will have a channel presenting information about what is happening on the ship, and also probably a navigation channel showing where the ship is. So all of that is to say that's it nowhere near like cable or satellite at home.

The other place where you are most likely to see sports events is the ship's sports bar, perhaps in the Sky Bar on the Mercury. I have been on cruises when significant and high interest sports events and games, like the Superbowl, were on TV and they were shown in the sports bar but not on the cabin TV. In addition to the sports bar the TV's at other bars and in the gym MAY have the Olympics on.

So, what I am saying is its possible for you to see some or all of the Olympics while on your cruise, but its not certain.

Nikki (: ♥
The whole olympics won't be shown on the tv in your cabin, some games might, but I doubt that all of them will.
There is a sports bar where you can view all of the olympic games. there's several tv's in there so you can watch whichever you'd like,

Hope this helps.

You will be able to watch the Olympics on board. Sailing to Alaska you will be more interested in Alaska than the Olympics believe me.
Enjoy your voyage.

Time travler
Most likely they will show the olympics on TV. I don't think it will be NBC, but more like espn or something like that. I was on a Princess cruise during the world cup and not only did they show that daily, it was on the giant outdoor screen by the pool. Doesn't get much better then that. On cruise ships, they get specific Cable feeds, so it is not like at home, but just a few channels. I have seen CNN, and ESPN and a few other channels on a cruise.

Rating
Yes it will be on TV
