have been on cruises and talked with the staff and though they love their job, it is very hard and the hours are long for the servers and they do not just work the dining room at night but also the lido buffet during the day. there are no Americans in these positions the few that do work on the ship are in the entertainment Field, for the most part. they work by contract 5 to 9 contracts and 7 days a week, for mostly tips, and yes room and food is included. also you have to be fluent in at lest 2 languages.
I have the greatest respect for the staff on the ships as they were all very good at what they did and always had a smile and where ready to make our vacation the best, even doing the little extras that where not required of them. |

None of the major cruise lines will hire you as a waitress if you are American or Canadian. The wages are so low that anyone in such positions work primarily for gratuities.
If you aren't Canadian or American, then yes you can be hired but you will start at entry level and work your way up that way.
Meals and accommodations are free, but you don't get much free time off. And they would not allow you to get off and travel by yourself for a few days unless you requested for a workbreak of which isn't so simple, again depending on your nationality.
You might want to look at other positions onboard as there are some that you would get some time off in the ports and not have to work so many hours and still get decent pay. |

Assuming your are an American citizen, your only chance of getting hired as a waitress is with NCL America. None of the others, Carnival, Royal Caribbean, Princess, to my knowledge hire American's for those positions.
Not sure of the monthly salary. As wait staff the majority of your money comes from tips
Working on a cruise ship does offer free meals and accommodations. When the ship is in port, you can get off the ship, assuming you don't have to work.
If you are working on a ship, you cannot get off for a few days and travel by yourself. Usually you are under contract for 6 months (length may vary) and you will be working every day of that 6 months (except maybe in some emergency situation) You might get hours off, but not days off.
And usually the ship is only in port for 8 hours or so. So you couldn't get off in one port and spend a few days there and then get back on the ship anyways. |

Be very careful with these type of jobs
I knew a few people back in the early 70's that worked on ships and were constantly asking of when they will get paid
In my opinion with todays situation in the world i would not take that job on unless it is in america only |

Well you get a very minimum monthly and or weekly salary, but you make so much in tips that is where the majority of your income comes from. Its usually $7 a day per person, and you usually would start out as an assistant waiter and making $5 or $6 a person per day. Then you would have anywhere from 2-8 people at a table, and then depending on the size of the tables anywhere from 2-4 tables or a little more.. The job has free meals, and if your married you get two to a room, but if your single its usually for to a room, with a really tiny bathroom, and you get the smaller rooms anyhow, or at least thats how it is for the men, the women could maybe do 3 to a room. It just depends I guess. You do get like breakfasts, lunches, and other times off, occasionally, and you can go out onto port, but you have to be back to get ready for the main dining room dinner. If your working all three shifts, you dont get to get off in port, and you sleep whenever you can, because you work really long hours, and dont get to eat until all the main dining room stuff or buffet times are over. So that could be until after 11 at night, before like 8 or something at breakfast or after 11, and then for lunch, after like 2 or 3. Its a long hard and tedious job, but I wouldn't recommned doing it for more then a few years, or just to make some quick cash, because you really dont get a personal life.. |

The salary/remuneration for a particular job is the market value for a particular profession and designation at the city/town where the office is located. Job postings at websites like Monster, Yahoo HotJobs and Careerbuilder carry information about salaries. The Govt Dept of Labor, (www.bls.gov) Bureau of statistics has information about median salaries for different professions and details of additional compensation offered. Other online resources are salary.com and payscale. Your salary will also depend on your educational qualification and how you handle your career.
