Would you stay at the bottom of a cruise ship?

I want to go on a cruise, but I am on a budget. I notice that the cheaper staterooms are on the bottom of the ship.

I take at least two 7 day cruises every year. I'm also on a budget. I'm a single mom, and every year I treat my mom and my lil girl to a cruise. This year I've decided to bring my niece along. We always opt for an inside stateroom and travel in the fall. We always sail on Disney, so they're a lil more expensive then some of the others lines but I'm traveling with kids so the extra $$ is worth it. Personally, I am very picky when selecting my cabin...I DON'T choose cabins that are near elevators, or directly above or below highly trafficked area...like a restaurant, night club, casino, etc...this is because of the noise. The lower you are on the ship..it does decrease the motion slightly but you can hear some engine noise..and the crew sleeps below you..again more noise. I always choose deck 6 or 7 and I prefer my cabin to be all the way forward or all the way at the rear of the ship..again it reduces noise.

First of all, you will not be at the bottom of the ship. You will be on the lowest passenger deck, but you will still be above the water line. Only the crew is housed below the water line.

If you are in an inside cabin, it does not matter where on the ship you are, since they all look the same once you close the door. If you are in an ocean view cabin, there are many who love being next to the water.

Though I usually book balconies (which are always well above the water line) I have booked a low level ocean view cabin for a cruise I am taking in April 2008. I was also in a low level inside cabin for two weeks during my first cruise in 1999.

There is nothing wrong with a lower cabin. In fact, if you get seasick easily, it has a great advantage. The closer you are to the water line the less the cabin moves if the ship starts rocking because of rough seas.

So would I stay in a low level passenger cabin? You bet I would, I have, and in April 2008 I will again. Enjoy your cruise.

I don't really think there is a bad place to get your room. The cheaper rooms are probably just as good as the more expensive ones. As most people are saying, you won't spend too much time in the room. Keep in mind most of the rooms aren't too big so make sure you don't totally overpack because there isn't a lot of space to move around. Enjoy yourself!

These are not bad. I actually like the inside cabins. That way when you stay up late at night you can sleep late in the day without the sun coming in the porthole or the window.
The biggest negative is it is a long stair walk to get to things like the entertainment and the dining rooms.

i tend to consider the inside cabins first. that way i can spend more on the activities in port or extras elsewhere. OR save for the next cruise. Have a great time on your next cruise

I have only been on one cruise and I was in the ocean view room. I should have saved my money, because I was only in the room to sleep. If I was to go on a cruise again, I will get the cheapest room.
The only drawback. I visited friends on the cruise that had the cheap room and I got lost trying to get upstairs. It was confusing. But I was drunk :)

where you stay on the ship is of little importance ...any where on any given ship has there own pros and cons..if budget is concern then tell your travel agent you want a inside guarantee the cheapest rate and you never know where you will end up..

kmbethell
It really doesn't matter where you stay. I have been on the bottom and the top and I really like the bottom better. One it is cheaper and two you do not feel the rocking as bad and the top decks. So go for the cheapest way all the rooms are the same on every deck.

Pamela G
Yeah- It really isn't a big deal. We always go with the cheapest room we can get so that we can have more spending money. You are not in your room a lot of the time and I can sleep just as good there as I can anywhere else.

Remember you are not below the water line, you are simply on a lower deck.

satanettaanus
i have....it really doesn't matter. or at least it didn't for me. i was never even in the room...plus, the cheap rooms are pitch black when the light isnt on so you sleep very well ....only the old people hang out in their rooms......

my point= your only in the room to change, shower, and sleep

Yes Ive stayed on level 2 there is a lot less movement on the bottom toward the center of the ship it not bad your never in your room anyway.
