Hi Dellarovere,

It's so sad to see the few forests of Greece being systematically destroyed. Fires or arsons, the unlicensed construction plots, the church with its wonderful plots of forests that "gives" them away to small time crooks that surround her, " el cheapo" businessman in the islands, "wannabe yappies" that build in the coastline, untreated industrial wastes, sewage, and municipal wastewater being discharged in rivers and the sea and so on and so forth...

Makes me wonder: do we really deserve this beautiful country? This "misery of being Greek" hurts me deeply. Then again, these firemen did all they can. But we hardly need any "heroes" these days. We need less "neo-Greekies".

Ipek K
We had our share of forest fires, too. The recent ones are in Bodrum- Halicarnassos- and Alanya, yesterday.

The firemen and crew , together with the volunteers not only do their best to do their job but also risk their lives to save the forests and the wild life who homes these forests. Therefore, they really deserve to be thanked.

I am happy to hear that the fire in your country is also put out -hopefully-with minimum damage possible.

Thank you for your thoughtfulness too, Angelo.

here in Turkey we also suffer from fires:( i want to thank everybody who fight with the fires by risking their lives...

If there were no firemen in our lives...
I can not even think of it. They are brave and they take risks for other people's lives.
There is fire in Bodrum, too. Unfortunately.
Thanks to all firemen.

A big thank you to all firemen around Greece and my deepest condolences to the 3 dead firemen from rethymno, that died last week during a fire

yes!!!thanks to all those courageous people who helped!!what would we have done without them!

I think therefore I am 2210
I am truly saddened when I see the fires in Greece, the country I was born in and lived in for 15 years. It hurts me to see the country destroyed for money. In fact it leaves me in a state of rage for the brainless people who do anything for a dime or who do anything because they are incompetent of rational thought. What truly annoys me though is the fact that the people that risk and even give their lives to protect us and other "civilians" are not rewarded accordingly. This topic is about firefighters. I respect them, they are my heroes. I truly wish though that we lived in a society where they were not so urgently needed. Who knows? In a few years the way things are going there may be no need for them anymore. Sad but true.

Yes, they did their best. I agree with Leonarda for politicians and all those who will run to take profit from what the fires leave behind. But we must thank from the bottom of our hearts those people who put their lifes in danger to save our few forests.

hello ,its great to know that many people still volunteer along side with firemen and authorities ,risking their lives in order to save the nature,,,animals ,,and dwelling zones,,,along the summer so many fires break out,,i think the authorities should raise the awareness among people ,,fortunately the fire was controlled which is a great thing,,,in the usa ,,one of the biggest summer fires in its history is still burning and not controlled for days now,,,so i salut in respect all who praise and join in the effort of controlling and preventing fires ,,best of life and nature to live,,in harmony

Of course they need that from the citizens which they have helped (the Greek State is as ussual the very incarnation of ingratitude)

Yes, they deserve it. But let's think of all those drivers who despite the orders by traffic police did not allow the fire frigades vehicles to approch, just because they don't respect anything but their own confort.

It really made me sad to see what happened to your country. Also, from my side, I would like to thank all those people who put their lives at risk to save lives. It is the most heartful thing anybody can do! May Greece never experience again such a tragedy!

About the thank you it is already given..The thing is:1st that the lack of consciousness will continue, second that the political parties will continue fighting gputting the blame on each other, and the new rich will always exist who will want to build their villas in the burnt areas...
