In the past, it has been point of conflict and crossroads of civilzation ...
Today it MUST be only a crossroad of civilizations...

I agree with Dellarovere family and with Anlarm and Istanbulbogazi...

Always crossroads of civilisations.Rhodes especially had been a crossroad because of its position, between west and orient..
The conflicts have been made between countries not by the populations, but by others... they had interests always and were making countries fighting..
Lets hope for peace always..
Niko, you forget i think many events and the position of Big Powers towards Greece...

Crossroads of civilizations. Both people are nice and warm.
Last week i was in France and there were two ladies that couldn't understand how a machine worked. They asked me i was trying to help and i heard them talking and i understood that they were Greek:) I asked them "are you from Greece" they said yes. I said hi i'm from Turkey. They were so happy they said in Turkish"komsu merhaba" to me. I got so happy. I said calimera:))) the machine was kind of stupid and we were trying to buy our tickets. Finally we achieved. The woman said: "Turkey and Greece worked together and we have beaten the machine:))"
I said "yes" and we laughed a lot.
So from this i just want to say something: Turkey and Greece coming together can form a marvellous cooperation. Peace everyone!

As a Turkish who loves Aegean Sea i want it to be the crossroads of civilizations. This kind of thought would bring us the shareholders:) of Aegean sea in a better position in the world. I am going to give my honest opinion: I think both of us Greeks and Turks should listen to eachother's voices. Until now if there had been some conflicts it was either because we listened to other countries comments or we didn't open up to each oter enough.
For me Aegean Sea is a magnificent, wonderful place which is the crossroads of very important civilizations.
Dellarovere:) more fish more mezze more uzo more raki more friendship isn't it? I loved your comment thumbs up from me.

Friendship btwn people is the goal.
Conflict is sometimes the reality.

People demand friendship.
Leaders and their interests "supply" conflict (to the people)

Aegean is our equilibrium point!

It depends from what kind of "side" we choose, in order to reach the equilibrium point. Do we choose side of land? Do we choose the "supply" side?
I choose the demand side ; demand for peace and friendship for two cultures with so many commons - even if this is my own reality (I hope not!!!)

It depends on how you look at it and how you want to see it. I sea Aegean as that blue magic, with two beautiful nations on each shore. As Agelos said, once they combine their strenghts, Turkish potential and Greek expertise in business, this federation/confederation (call it whatever you like) will become one of the biggest economical powers in the world.
Let us work together to make this beautiful sea the center of civilizations and Greco-Turkish alliance and friendship.

Both..

Angelo explained the civilizations point of view very well.

As per the point of conflict issue, yes it also is and always be a point of conflict but it is ours; Turkish and Greek. İt is :

MARE NOSTRUM

lets not forget the fish , either :)

...and I still want your island Samos, Dimitri :D

Hello dear!

Well, the Aegean was never the crossroads of civilizations and this is because there always was only one civilization around here: the Greek, in its many forms: Cretan (Minoan), Peloponnesean (Mycenean), Dorian, Ionic, Achean, Aitolian, ... and so on! All the conquerers got influenced by the indigenous populations and parts of the Greek civilizations and improve their mentality and levels!

Since the Romans got the area, and for centuries were slaughtering the Greeks (by law most of the times). Also, the populations were executed just for their believes! Since then, Greeks never had proper regulations to grow and develop great advances for themselves and humanity! Also, when the Roman Empire was moved to the region, the West was attacking constantly to destroy even the last flames of Greeks, ...

Hence, from the time the Greeks were not allowed to guard the Aegean, the region has been a part of the Middle Eastern problem, thus became a point of conflict!

Ofcourse a crossroad of civilisations. The Greek and the Turkish ones, which are very close, almost identical: Same customs and habits, same mentality and values, same music, same cuisine, and so on... The Great Powers of each period created and still create reasons of conflict just for their own interests.
If ever Greece and Turkey decided to unite in a Confederation, and they have so many reasons to, they would be a great power and they would expell the interests of the others who want other countries and nations as their subjects.
The Aegean Sea has always been a crossroad of civilisations, it must be a bridge of peace, too...

And let Kardak or Imia belong just to the fish, to which actually they belong to...

P.S. Stratos, you're really obsessed with the idea that everything is Greek or of Greek origin. There has been also the Persian civilisation, which was of great importance, and influnced the ancient greek one in many ways, as in art.
The Persian civisation influenced also Bysantium in a great extense, Ottoman Empire too.
As a connesseur and a collector I can assure you that both turkish and greek clothes and traditional costumes, as well as pottery techniques and decorative motifs are of Persian origin.
Traditional greek copper articrafts are, beyond any dispute, of turkish origin as to forms and decoration (names too), as well as traditional embroidery in many occasions. Tapestry came to Greece from Turkey, complicated cuisine too...
Not to mention the influences from Italy, which date back to the times that Venicians were in possession of almost all the Aegean Islands...
Let's accept civilisation, wherever it derives from...

I don't believe that one country can be "a good one" or a "bad one" but lets not close our eyes. I wish to God that mankind could see how stupid the idea of borders is .. fencing a land that is not ours or anybody's to claim but the reality is very, very different and it has been so for thousands of years. Each country will always try to secure it's position by any means political or by force. And the Aegean is very important for both countries.I mean we all say that times are different and the borders should be kept as they are but the Turkish government is doing constant moves of "gentle pushing" to try to have more space in the Aegean. I am not saying they should stop because that's what they have to do for their people. That's why we don't want to give in an inch. And that is why we are always going to hear LIES from ALL the governments in the world. What I know for instance about the Imia crisis is completely another story from what Turkish people have been told. And the worst thing is that it will never stop. So there are conflicts and there will still be in the future. The only thing we can do is try to think for ourselves.

Everyday the turkish F-16 are violating Greek air space, and everyday there are problems...Turks say it was a "mistake", but we know they really meant to do it. They want to verify our reactivity time, and they try to take pictures of our country.
We lost all Anatolia, and we mustn't let them provock us this way.
Thanks God we have good american missiles in all the islands, and we'll push the button if necessary...And these missiles are powerfull enough to hit and destroy any turkish city...
