You are going to one of the most modern and fun filled places in Turkey. The chances of you getting raped or kidnapped etc.. in Izmir is about 50 times lower than Texas.

Don't worry, you will be fine. Just take normal cautions that you would take worldwide- don't trust strangers, don't go wandering around dark alleys at night, don't get into strangers cars etc...

You will be fine and have the greatest time of your life there, you'll see :)

Your friends are telling strange stories. Turkey is one of the most popular holiday destination for Europeans and it is - as a islamic country - really not famous for its flowering sex business. The area of Izmir, the antic city of Smirna, is one of most beautiful tourist areas in Turkey, where crime is really not the problem at all. In Izmir there are two nice and famous Universities. New York, LA, Paris, Berlin or London are more dangerous.

I live in Izmir, and i am a fan of Alsancak (check my facebook if you don't believe :)
don't ever worry. you won't be kidnapped, raped and omg, sold into a sex slave industry.. Izmir is one of the most beautiful and the safest cities in Turkey. (No.1 imho) and Alsancak is full of shops, cafes, bars, pubs & clubs. Whilst having fun in nightlife, you can also chill out by the sea view at Kordon. You gotta live Alsancak.

Izmir is far safer than anywhere in Texas.I am Enghlish and live in Turkey and I feel safer here than in UK.
