Amsterdam is in Holland - Is Holland in the Netherlands?

Holland is only two parts of the Netherlands. It is kind of like how the United States is divided into states, the Netherlands in divided into provinces. There is south holland and north holland. Amsterdam is in north holland. Holland is just a small part of the Netherlands.

G S
The Netherlands is often referred to by the name Holland. This is, however, ambiguous as Holland is the name of a region in the western Netherlands. Using 'Holland' for 'the Netherlands' is thus comparable to the use of 'England' for 'the United Kingdom'. Many Dutch people, especially those from provinces other than North Holland and South Holland, object to the use of the name of 'Holland' for the entire Netherlands.

Kermit is right.

The Netherlands is often referred to by the name Holland
but Holland is actually the name of a region in the western Netherlands
So yes Holland is in the Netherlands

Holland is NOT another name for the Netherlands. Holland is only a region of the Netherlands. Think of it as someone calling the US by the name Texas(or other state).

So yes Holland is in the Netherlands.
