My friend & I stayed at Hotel Crystal in the Liedsplien area (near VondelPark) in 2003. It was clean & centrally located. Everything was within a 20 minute walk & there was public transportation within less than a 5 minute walk for those who do not want to walk too far. It was a family run hotel like a B&B with breakfast included. At that time, it was around $90 USD per night, but the exchange rate was 1.14USD to 1.00 Euro at the time. Not sure of the price now, but it was clean & safe. It was away from the Red Light District & the train station, which are not the best neighborhoods. We booked directly with the hotel by e-mailing them, but I don't have the contact info anymore. Try doing a search for "Hotel Crystal Amsterdam". |

I stayed in a hostel in the red light district, there is a lot of accommodation around that area, it is fine, but do be careful of junkies on the street, they can approach you trying to sell drugs and I was almost mugged at one point. |

Winston Hotel is fairly central, at the edge of the red light district. It's full of character and not too expensive.
ENJOY!!! |

Hansje brinker is favourite by Backpackers. It is not far from the most touristic places. No airco, no nice view, but clean rooms. Not for 30+ I would say.
Check out Lonely Planet for other places to sleep. |

Flying Pig Downtown
Youth hostel at the top of Nieuwendijk. Right in the heart of the old centre. About 5 mins walk from Centraal station and all of the tram stops (so you have easy access to the rest of the city and to Schihpol airport). Rooms are about £15 pppn
Thing is, 'tourist' Amsterdam is so compact, most of the main attractions are at most, about 20 mins walk away. This hostel is right in the thick of it all, and the breakfasts are tasty too. |

I've stayed at the Ibis in Belgium several times and loved it. there is an Ibis in Holland just off the train station in Amsterdam. Go to www.Ibis.com or www.hoteldiscounts.com to book a room. This is located right at the loop in the city's center of activity. Have fun! |
